🚨 JIHADISTS STORM UPRISING BIRTHPLACE: AL SHABAAB BACK IN A KEY HIIRRAN STRONGHOLD

Mogadishu: Al-Shabaab militants have reportedly seized Afar Irdood and nearby Baraag Sheikh Hassan after government forces and Ma’awisley fighters withdrew from the strategic settlements near Beledweyne.

The stunning setback comes four years after Afar Irdood became a symbol of the Ma’awisley uprising against Al-Shabaab.

No major fighting was reported during the takeover, with militants reportedly moving in after the defenders pulled out.

The loss of the settlements along the Beledweyne to Mahas road could threaten #Mogadishu movement and military supply routes, while raising fresh questions about whether government forces can actually hold territory reclaimed from the jihadists.

For communities that rose up against Al-Shabaab in 2022, the reported return is a particularly bitter blow.
