Even though Sowore is also running away from the critical issue of openly declaring that for our electricity sector to attain rapid growth, we must have cost-reflective tariffs across board, he at least showed greater depth and understanding of our power sector and the kind of electricity market we should be aiming at.

It is very strange for a presidential candidate to publicly say that the citizens he seeks to govern do not need to know how exactly he intends to fix a sector as critical as power, which has been a major issue for the country for decades. Many Obidients are actually shocked that he could say that and that's why they are not posting any video clip from that interview with Rufai. It's a major gaffe by Obi.

It appears that what Obi wants is "just make me the President, don't ask me what I will do, just trust me, everything will be alright once I get on the seat!

Unfortunately if past antecedents are anything to go by, Obi has a very poor record when it comes to anything related to power. As Governor he did nothing in the power landscape beyond signing MOU for an IPP in Onitsha that never materialised.

Tinubu on the other hand, when power regulation was still on the exclusive list, broke the monopoly of NEPA as a Governor and laid the foundations for the NIPP inadvertently and by extension the gradual commercialisation of the power sector in Nigeria. It's obvious Tinubu will complete the cycle when he finally removes electricity subsidy or expand band A coverage at the very least. With every bond that Tinubu approves to clear subsidy debts owed to Gencos and Gascos, we are getting closer to the point where cost-reflective tariffs will become universally applied to all electricity customers.

So, any presidential candidate that says Nigerians do not need to know how he will fix power because he went to Egypt to see how one of their system operator controls a portion of their transmission grid (and not pricing 🤦🏽‍♂️) is just joking. No apologies.
