Illuminate China's genocidal policy against Uyghurs, ethnic cleansing, and a crime against humanity. Topics include Uyghur, Hong Kong, Tibet and China.
"100 Days Lock-down and Still Counting"
I created this piece during the harshest lockdown on the Uyghurs before China lifted its zero-COVID policy after the high-rise fire in Urumchi last November. Dozens of Uyghurs died in the fire.

Today I walked out of Voice of America for the last time.
After 6 years as VOA’s only Uyghur-speaking journalist, I leave with pride in the 300+ stories I reported—and in launching the network’s first Uyghur-language program.
China later imprisoned at least 5 of my former colleagues for simply having worked with me.
I step away not by choice—but I carry this work forward.
I’m now building Uyghur Monitor, a nonprofit media platform for independent reporting and the voices too often silenced.

"The Vanishing of Youth"
It talks about population decline, and the choice of a quiet Uyghur village as the cover image is particularly striking— the author may be familiar with the Uyghur situation, making the selection seem intentionally meaningful...
