++ play here from Nacho Alvarez tonight for the Braves and a couple key takeaways… 💥

1. This ball was absolutely smoked to the hot corner and there was no room for error for timing with his prep step to be late and inefficient if he wants to make this play.

2. With prep steps, you want to be a split second late landing with your hop so you aren’t caught with your feet already landed before the ball is hit, which is inefficient and makes us lose athleticism/range as fielders moving to our right and left.

3. In the angle in the slow motion replay, you can see Alvarez land a split second late as the ball is entering the imaginary strike zone of the hitter, which allows his feet to start self aligning in the direction he is moving to make the diving play. This allows him to explode in that direction and get the most out of his crossover step, instead of landing flat and having a weak crossover step.

4. Tough diving play leads to little time to get rid of it and leads to a tough throw…he’s not afraid to use the long hop and trust his 1B to handle it instead of trying to be a hero and possibly pull his 1B making a throw all the way in the air.

All around plus play with some teachable moments!💥💪🏻
