Debunking Ethiopia’s “Sea Access” Myth
African leaders are calling out the false narrative pushed by Abiy Ahmed—that Ethiopia’s growth is blocked by lack of sea access. The Prosperity Party keeps repeating the “landlocked myth” to justify pressure on Eritrea’s port of Assab.
At the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Abiy claimed Ethiopia’s “sovereign access to the sea” is key to stability in the Horn of Africa. 😅
Translation: give Assab peacefully—or Ethiopia will take it by force. 😂
Bottom line: Enough propaganda. Ethiopia already accesses 10+ ports for trade.

President Trump Is Not Your Errand Boy, Mr. Rubin
by Ghidewon Abay Asmerom
Red Sea Beacon
The likes of Michael Rubin suffer from a familiar Beltway delusion: confusing access to power with ownership of it, and confusing assertion with truth.
Trump is not Rubin's "errand boy" for endless wars; respect Eritrea's sovereignty to avoid Red Sea chaos.

I could not find a more apt reply than a stanza from a song by the martyr poet Isaias Tsegay:
“Fantasy and reality are separate realms.
We do not cater to others’ fantasies.”
"ሕልምን ጋህድን ግን ክልተ ኣርእስትታት እዩ'ሞ፡
ሕልሚ ከነሳሲ ኣይጥዕመናን'ዩ!"
A top Prosperity Party cadre (Daniel Kibret) is openly spilling the beans on Haile Selassie. In one of his most revealing speeches last week, he talked too much and inadvertently told the world that Haile Selassie was a usurper who did not deserve to rule #Ethiopia. He said:
“Let me mention a well-known figure about whom many songs were written. His name is Ligabaw Beyene. He was Menelik’s trustee, and when Menelik passed away, he gave his word regarding who would succeed him. Later, when Lij Iyasu was removed from power and Ras Teferi rose to prominence, Ligabaw Beyene objected. He refused to accept it and sided with those who opposed Ras Teferi’s ascent to power. As a result, there was significant conflict between him and Ras Teferi. He was punished for his stance, flogged by Ras Teferi, exiled to Koysha, and suffered greatly.”
President Isaias Afwerki and his delegation were accorded warm welcome by the Deputy Emir of the Makkah Region, Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz, on their arrival at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah in the mid-afternoon hours today.
Earlier in the day, President Isaias Afwerki met leaders of the Eritrean community and national associations - Youth, Women, PDFJ - in Riyadh and its environs.
President Isaias underlined that Eritrea's strength has always been anchored on the patriotism of its people. In this regard, President Isaias urged the Community and National Association bodies to redouble their efforts in order to preserve and enhance the Diaspora's commendable culture of hard work, unity and proper upbringing of their kids.
President Isaias further stressed the need for coordinated approaches by all civil society stakeholders to combat subterfuges that may be concocted to dilute the culture, values and cohesion of the young generation in the Diaspora.
#Eri101:
Eritrea and Ethiopia signed the Asmara Declaration on 9 July 2018 and the Jeddah Agreement on 16 September 2018, in which they agreed, inter alia, to:
- respect each other's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity; and
- implement the decisions of the EEBC.
On the invitation of General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council, President Isaias Afwerki arrived in Port Sudan in the early afternoon hours today for a working visit.
President Isaias Afwerki and his entourage were accorded warm welcome by General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and senior Government Ministers on their arrival, by road travel, at the entrance of Port Sudan.
President Isaias Afwerki's visit is both symbolic and vivid gesture of the warm and robust solidarity that Eritrea harbours towards the people of Sudan and their Government in these times of adversity.
The residents of the Port city came out in their thousands to welcome President Isaias Afwerki, chanting in celebration of the historic relations between Eritrea and Sudan.
@gdrarr Getachew Reda; He is a total lier, cunning, without stand, living for his daily food, doesn’t have affection for his people, what adjectives left without using to express this nonsense guy! I am totally astonished by his reply!
Remember, Getachew Reda prepared for this interview, and here's what came out. His political 180° gymnastics to keep his belly fed via his new position with Abiy is astounding. However, Mahdi Hassan forced him to be exposed and probably be dumped by Abiy, as he exposed Abiy as a genocider. From what we've heard, this is just a small glimpse into how badly Reda has fallen in the interview. Oh, this is awful.
A Kenyan politician specializing in foreign relations and security put it bluntly: “It is #Ethiopia that stands accused of irredentism.” He added that Addis Ababa now finds itself increasingly isolated — with virtually every major actor, from the #US and #SaudiArabia to #China, the #ArabLeague, and multiple #African states — telling Ethiopia that its approach is unacceptable, leaving the country on the defensive diplomatically.
He stressed that it is perfectly normal for a landlocked state to seek sea access through bilateral agreements with its neighbours — #Eritrea, #Djibouti, or #Somalia. But it becomes an entirely different matter when a country starts entertaining the idea of seizing territory by force, imposing a naval base, and projecting military power at the expense of its neighbours. According to him, even Ethiopia’s closest partners have made it clear: this path is beyond the pale.
@gemechuGemehu4 A day dreaming and false narrations by the expansionist Ethiopia. Eritrea never ever was part of Ethiopia but only in the period from 1953-1991 which the Ethiopian forcefully annexed by help of western sabotage on the rights or Eritreans sovereignty.
Abiy Ahmed, in his recent parliamentary “talk-show,” proudly announced that he had asked multiple countries—including the #AU , #US , #Russia, #China, and the EU—to mediate his claims for access to the sea with Eritrea.
What he conveniently didn’t mention during his live-streamed address is what response, if any, he received for this audacious call asking #Eritrea to relinquish its sovereign coastline.
Even more telling, no nation has stepped in to mediate. Instead, statements from the UK, US, and Russia emphasize that #Ethiopia, as a landlocked country, must respect international law regarding access to coastal states and their ports.
From this, one can reasonably infer that the “response” Abiy left out was likely a polite but firm message: return home and stop embarrassing yourself—and your allies—by making unrealistic claims over sovereign territory.
