I don’t know what you people want, but Vitinha is doing his job. It’s because you all are judging from the point of view of chance creation. His job is to dictate the tempo, retain possession, offer passing angles, progress the ball through the phases, and keep Portugal in control. He isn’t in the team to force passes every two minutes.

The real issue is what happens after he does his job. Portugal are reaching the final third, but they’re lacking the profile that can consistently unlock a settled defence. That’s not on Vitinha.

People expect every midfielder to create like a No. 10, but that’s not his game. He’s the one making sure the team functions, stays connected, and dominates the ball. Without that control, Portugal would look far worse.

Bruno, who struggles to create in a stable possession system, is the problem. He’s at his best when games become chaotic, transitions open up, and he has runners attacking space. That’s where his risk-taking pays off.

Against deep blocks, where patience, positioning, and precise combinations matter, he’s struggling badly.

Put a profile like Ozil or De Bruyne in this same setup and you’d see far more chances created because they’re masters at unlocking organised defences without needing chaos. Bruno is an elite creator, but his strengths are suited to a different type of game.
