This woman’s dog found a baby opossum in her garden shed… and she immediately went full mom mode.

She checked on him, talked to him sweetly even while he was hissing, gently picked him up, and even tried to clean the sticky stuff off his little front paws.

At one point she looked straight at the camera and said, “This is the best day of my life” — and she’s married, has kids, and has seen Taylor Swift live three times 😭

The possum went from terrified and hissing to just calmly hanging out in her hand. It was equal parts adorable and hilarious.

I love how she was giving him kisses and tummy scratches, but I have to admit… I probably wouldn’t be doing that. Who knows where that little guy has been!

Opossum moms are devoted marsupials famous for carrying their litters on their backs. After a rapid 13-day pregnancy, a mother gives birth to babies the size of honeybees. The babies live in her pouch for about 2 to 3 months, and once they grow too large, they cling tightly to her back while she hunts and forages. This is called the “Taxi” phase.
I can’t imagine carrying a dozen babies around for a day, let alone a month. But that is exactly what these opossum moms do. If you come across an opossum mom in your garden or yard feel fortunate that they are eating your unwanted pests like ticks.
I was shocked to learn that opossums were marsupials. How did I not know this before? 🤔
