1/28/26 - 2/1/26 | Florida Podiatric Medical Association (FPMA) Science & Medical Symposium (SAM Conference) 2026: Zadek Dorsal Closing-Wedge Calcaneal Osteotomy Case Report & Poster Presentation
Proud to have presented my first scientific research poster at the Florida Podiatric Medical Association (FPMA) SAM Conference 2026 as a co-author and presenter. Our case report provided an opportunity to discuss current literature, clinical decision-making, and the application of minimally invasive surgical techniques for the treatment of insertional Achilles tendinopathy with physicians, residents, faculty, and fellow student doctors.
Presenting our case report at SAM 2026 was a rewarding milestone and an opportunity to engage with fellow students, residents, practicing podiatric physicians, and industry representatives while discussing current literature and evidence-based approaches to patient care. Experiences like these have strengthened my ability to evaluate clinical evidence, communicate scientific concepts, and appreciate the importance of collaboration in advancing patient care.
Thankful to my co-authors, faculty mentors, and the Florida Podiatric Medical Association (@FPMAtweets) for supporting student research and providing a platform to showcase our work. I look forward to carrying these experiences and perspectives with me throughout my career.

Florida Podiatric Medical Association (FPMA) Science & Medical Symposium (SAM Conference) 2026: Zadek Dorsal Closing-Wedge Calcaneal Osteotomy Case Report & Research Poster
Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy (IAT) associated with Haglund deformity remains a challenging condition, particularly in active patients who have failed conservative treatment. My team presented a case report titled "Zadek Dorsal Closing-Wedge Calcaneal Osteotomy With Concomitant Haglund Resection for Refractory Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy," highlighting the successful management of chronic insertional Achilles tendinopathy in a recreational athlete using a minimally invasive surgical approach.
Through a comprehensive review of current literature and analysis of a clinical case involving a 32-year-old recreational athlete, our poster explored the biomechanical rationale, preoperative imaging considerations, surgical technique, and postoperative outcomes associated with this procedure. The patient's progressive healing, reduction in pain, return to weight-bearing, and successful return to athletic activity further supported the growing body of evidence demonstrating this procedure as an effective treatment option for appropriately selected patients.
Contributing to this project strengthened my appreciation for evidence-based medicine and reinforced the importance of integrating current literature with clinical decision-making to improve patient outcomes. Special thanks to my fellow student researchers Maymunah Ray, Rolando Petit, Toluwani Adenuga, and Maria Hidalgo for the opportunity to collaborate on this project, as well as Dr. Daniel Stewart, DPM, AACFAS, FAAPSM, DABPM, for his support of the case. I appreciate everyone's contributions throughout the research and poster development process and look forward to continuing to contribute to clinical research and evidence-based medicine.

1/24/26 – PRC x Stryker Limb Salvage Research & Sawbones Workshop
Participated in the Podiatric Research Club x @strykerfa Limb Salvage Research & Sawbones Workshop led by Dr. Mario Cala, DPM, with support from Dr. Edgar Sy, DPM, AACFAS, providing students with exposure to advanced limb salvage and reconstructive surgery concepts through both lecture-based and hands-on learning. The workshop explored innovative approaches to complex lower extremity reconstruction, including orthoplastic principles, Tibial Transverse Transport (TTT) for ischemic limb salvage, and Charcot reconstruction techniques. Students then applied these concepts in a sawbones lab focused on fixation strategies, biomechanical considerations, operative planning, and technology-driven solutions utilized in modern limb salvage and reconstructive procedures. The experience provided valuable insight into the clinical decision-making, procedural planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration required to optimize outcomes in high-risk lower extremity patients. Thank you to the Podiatric Research Club and Stryker for organizing an engaging educational experience centered on advancing limb salvage and lower extremity reconstruction.
11/24/25 – Sports Medicine Club: Emergency Preparedness & On-Field Care Workshop
Attended the Sports Medicine Club's Emergency Preparedness & On-Field Care Workshop, which focused on real-world lower extremity emergency management and the principles of providing care in athletic and on-field settings. The workshop provided students with exposure to emergency response considerations, injury assessment, and the importance of timely decision-making when managing lower extremity injuries outside of the traditional clinical environment. Experiences like these help broaden understanding of the interdisciplinary approach required in sports medicine while reinforcing the importance of preparation, communication, and patient-centered care. Thank you to Dr. Scott Freer, Ph.D., ATC, LAT, CSCS, NASM-PES,CES, FMS-1, and the Sports Medicine Club for organizing an engaging educational experience.

11/17/25 – Surgical Principles: Mock OR Scrub-In & Gowning Lab
Participated in a Surgical Principles lab focused on operating room protocol, sterile technique, and proper surgical gowning procedures. Students practiced the steps involved in preparing for the operative environment while reinforcing the importance of sterility, teamwork, and adherence to OR standards. The session provided valuable exposure to operating room workflow and helped build familiarity with the protocols and responsibilities required to maintain a safe and effective surgical environment. Huge thanks to Dr. Edgar Sy, DPM, the residents, and fellow students who helped guide the lab and provide hands-on instruction throughout the session.
