I don't think it's an act. Perhaps the continuous presence of social media prevents the proper development of a once normal sense of self. They seem to behave more as a collective rather than as individuals and these outbursts can be understood as communication between the semi-conscious 'nodes'. If there's any truth to the side in mind, explain why you can't reason with them individually.
