@DavidAFrench I’m a proud progressive, but I’ve got to agree that the reporter was out of line. I have no love for Trump, but I can’t fault him for walking out.
San Quentin prison holds their first ever father-daughter prom, for some inmates it was the first time they’ve ever spent face to face time with their daughters.
Very cool.
One father, Steven Embrey, got to hug his 28-year-old daughter one last time before she was tragically k*lled in a car crash shortly after the event.
“He got the only dance he’s ever done with her,” said the event organizer.
“I’m so happy I participated in the prom and I got to see her. She was so beautiful that day. I have so many beautiful memories,” Embrey said.
The event was the finale of a two-month long family workshop led by a group advocating for prison reform.
@Akaiyala @DavidAFrench What’s scary is you’re more bothered by David’s reporting than the racism itself. Ingrassia’s own texts say MLK Day should be abolished, “never trust a Chinaman or Indian,” and that he has a “Nazi streak.” That’s not vague language—it’s explicit racism and a plan to act on it.
@FrankGriffith1 @imleftylimbaugh @PeteButtigieg@grok Hey @grok what’s the FAA record for safety while Buttigieg was Transportation Secretary, and what kind of investment in updating flight systems happened. Oh, and tell @frankgriffith1 the difference between TSA and FAA.
@danielsilliman The response by Christians to an author’s apology (re: details of the crucifixion) is far more troubling than his error: Jesus was crucified with nails, and @danielsilliman with words from supposed brothers and sisters. Have you no grace?
I’d suggest it’s high time that an organized effort begins to individually identify ICE agents and document their actions. Just like with the Gestapo, a time will come when ICE agents will be called to account for their actions — that begins now with Watchers and Record Keepers.
Bible verses condemning trans folks: 0
Bible verses about welcoming migrants: 33
Bible verses about advocating for peace: 429
Bible verses about loving God and others: 714
Bible verses about taking care of the poor: 2000+
There are absolutely no "biblical" grounds for being anti-trans.
@Philosorapper_@thomaslhorrocks I’m honestly curious what’s on your list of “real evils” that Trump might address? Because from where I sit unleashing racism, xenophobia, restricting immigration, rolling back protections for LGBTQ folks, and the environment, all feel like evils that he’s likely to bring in.
I was hungry, but you took free lunch out of schools.
I was thirsty, but you made me drink contaminated water.
I was a stranger, but you watched me and my children drown underneath your razor-wire buoys.
I was sick, but you cut my healthcare coverage.
I was in prison, but you left me there because you profited off of it.
Whatever you do to the least of these, my siblings, you do to me.
(how I think Jesus would have phrased Matthew 25 if he was speaking to us today)
@DoctrinesofRad Real Christians don’t eat with tax collectors and sinners or attend their baby showers… oh wait, I mean real Pharisees. Sorry for the confusion.
A way too long thread on how churches exercise a quiet form of control by creating enmeshed systems of poorly differentiated people. Maybe this will help explain some of your experience.
@panerabread - woefully disappointed that i didn’t earn a Sip Club VIP mug & was given a $5 consolation gift cert. Wah wah. I’m a VIP in my heart; can’t take that from me panerabread.
@pastordmack@ptseminary Don’t neglect Austin Presbyterian Seminary which is also making progress by installing it’s first African American (and woman) dean, and first non-white president.
