Two Chinese nationals were arrested for using real U.S. passports belonging to others to enter the U.S. at John Wayne Airport. https://t.co/FTVDOBYc0r
You may wonder “how could they steal US passports from China? No they didn’t, they bought them on WeChat. My analysis is: the real owners of the stolen passports may just be within the same crime ring. That’s my real concern.
Here is how it works: taking advantage of fact that the workers of U.S. Customs sometimes are unable to distinguish between different Asian faces. So the Chinese criminals in the U.S. offered two Chinese Americans big money to “borrow” their U.S. passports, and the payments are made via WeChat, which is totally out of the sight U.S. authorities. Next, the 2 passports are sold to the Chinese nationals, again via WeChat. Upon successful arrival, the two passports will be returned to the real owners — nothing happened.
What if the two Chinese nationals are busted? The two passport owners just deny any involvement and claim they are the victims of passport theft. That’s it! Simple and easy. There is no way to prosecute them due to lack of evidence. MANY Chinese in America have lots of money in China and WeChat is their tool of managing their Chinese money.
My biggest concern is that this may not be the first time such “smart” crime is committed, who knows how many Chinese military men have already entered the U.S. in this way.
