A brand new school year is here - full of fresh starts, new goals, and endless possibilities! Whether you’re stepping into the classroom for the first time or returning with experience and excitement, we thank you for answering the call to educate hearts and minds.
"When class sizes grow, individual student needs get harder to meet." - @OECTAPrez René Jansen in de Wal
#CatholicTeachers continue to call on @FordNation & @PaulCalandra to support #OntEd students' learning and teachers' working conditions by investing in smaller class sizes!
When making new #OntEd initiatives, the Ford govt must work w/education experts — teachers.
As @OECTAprez states, #CatholicTeachers know the most effective professional learning is practical, evidence-based, & grounded in the real challenges & opportunities of today’s classrooms.
Today we celebrate the feast of the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. May we continue to pray & emphasize Jesus' love and compassion for humanity.
YCT President Mike Totten standing in solidarity with @cupe.20732025 Canadian Hearing Services workers in Newmarket. They deserve decent pay and decent working conditions for the services they provide the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community of York Region.
The Environmental Committee invited members and their families to join in on some outdoor fun. Participants enjoyed fresh air, great company and a sweet treat.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Fr. Ernie, for his presence, prayers, and blessings as we celebrated our retiring teachers and those marking 25 years of service. A huge thank you to our wonderful choir and pianist for the beautiful music.
YCT OECTA celebrates the dignity and worth of every person. We stand with our 2SLGBTQIA+ students, colleagues, and families, recognizing their unique gifts to our communities. We support safe, inclusive spaces where all can learn, grow, and celebrate as beloved children of God.
The ON PC’s continues to underfund education, leaving students without the support they need. Bigger class sizes, fewer resources, and overwhelmed educators are taking a toll on student success. Contact your trustee and MPP to tell them to invest in publicly funded education.
📢Ontario’s plan to add 2,600 teacher candidate spaces is a step forward, but as @OECTAprez René Jansen in de Wal notes, it does not address the REAL issues.
Recruitment alone won’t fix #OntEd's teacher shortage – we need urgent action on RETENTION!

Calling it 'record funding' doesn't make it true.
This year's Core Education Funding is another instance of the Ford government over promising and under delivering – #OntEd students deserve better.
