I have lived in the UK long enough to notice one thing that breaks my heart about Nigeria.

In Britain, an 80 year old woman knows exactly what her pension will be next month.

She plans her shopping around it. Books her holidays around it. Lives her dignity around it.

In Nigeria, an 80 year old man who served this country for 35 years is begging his children for feeding money.

And we call Britain a cold, individualistic society.

At least their old people are not dying of hunger in their children's parlours, too proud to ask for water.

We pride ourselves as "family-oriented" culture. But we have normalised leaving our elderly to rot while the government that took their best years lives in Abuja eating their future.

A society that cannot protect its old people has no business calling itself civilised.

I went to secondary school in Barkin Ladi 20 years ago. This is what SS1 - 3 boys were doing, night shifts in the blistering cold. I did it too. My mates in Oyo were sleeping or studying. I’ve watched this shit deteriorate in real time.

Barkin Ladi now looks nothing like it did when I graduated 14 years ago. I went to the same junction we used to buy stuff during outings last year & I was shaking. They don’t speak the same language. Few months ago, my aunt in mangu came to ask for money to trade cause she can’t farm anymore. Their farms were attacked 3 years ago. They wouldn’t dare go back.

For more than 10 years, we’ve had internally displaced persons from Borno living in our house, after my mother took them in. They only go back to their so-called homes for funerals. 3 brilliant kids; Elizabeth, Margaret and Grace (named after my now late mother for her benevolence). The dad does security work, the mom cleans. Who knows what they could’ve made of themselves back home? I do, they’d have been compost for aliens.

Let me tell you how it happened. Nigeria’s ginger export hit zero from N26 billion within 3 years.

The official story blames fungal blight.

But here is what actually happened. When Nigerian farmers lost their indigenous seed supply, grant-aided interventions arrived with replacement seeds.

An associate professor at Lagos Business School flagged publicly that some of those interventions involved GMO organisms that weakened indigenous crops and compromised soil health.

That is not a conspiracy theory because it is a documented academic concern.

Now that Nigeria spoke got destroyed by the GMO seedlings….what is not the result?

Nigeria was forced to import ginger from China to fill domestic demand. Chinese ginger has none of the pungency, oleoresin content, or quality that made Nigerian ginger a global premium product. And the ginger now sitting in Nigerian markets tastes like wood because it essentially is wood.

The two indigenous varieties that built Nigeria’s global ginger reputation, the Tafin Giwa and Yatsun Biri, had decades of soil relationship and quality built into them.

Once the soil was degraded and those seed varieties were displaced, the product that returned was a pale imitation. Nigeria did not just lose a market. It lost a seed. And without a National Ginger Seed Bank, which nobody has built, it may never fully get it back.

I don't think any big northern politician will accept to be on the same card with PO as his VP.

Mainly because they understand their people's attitude towards other ethnicities and religion.

I promise you a Christian Christian ticket would never have won. Northern muslims are not that liberal.

Southern Christians are liberal enough for a Muslim- muslim ticket to fly.

Easthern Christians need to make up the numbers somehow. But, there's also the part where 99% are Christians who are on monogamous marriages. It'll be hard to out-birth Northern muslims in polygamous marraiges.

It's the reason why an Atiku or RBK may likely not line up behind Obi. Because they understand how illiberal their people are.

No1: He's from the East and we haven't buried the ghosts of the civil war. They still haunt us today. Secondly he's a Christian. That's a double whammy for the Northern Muslims who seem to have our electoral future in a chokehold.

These are people who will rather perish than be led by someone they consider "arne."

Well, if they erase the Christians. They can finally make the claim. That's why it's not an accident that the places that are bearing the worst brunt are Christian dominated villages in the North and Middle East.

The Northern politicians understand this. A lot of them support it and provide political cover for their fighters. It even gives them relevance.

Although politics might have softened the more liberal ones a bit, because they're all looking for some semblance of national appeal but deep down, they don't believe that an Igbo man can win in the north.

That's why they won't line up behind one.

I think the best they can offer to Obi is to make him president through the back door which is only possible if he becomes Vice President first.

With this understanding, the only way to rise past this is for Christians to also stop being as politically liberal as they have been. We're in an ideological war and our opponents are trying to take all the advantage and we're letting them.

A Muslim - Muslim ticket should have never even been considered. I actually put money on this and lost. I guess I didn't believe that our people could be so politically naive.

Western Christians and Muslims are the least radical of all these groups so those could become the swing vote.

Eastern Christians have already seen the writings on the wall. Although they did support people outside of their own group over people in their group in the past.

Northern muslims have always been illiberal. Everyone else is an infidel. That's why Atiku deleted the tweet asking for justice for Deborah.

Politics is a game of numbers and they seem to have it or at least have devices ways to make it seem that way although the last election which was more tech enabled exposed that ploy.

My only hope is that the new generation of Nigerians who have recently become old enough to vote will take their futures very seriously.

We cannot all run away or japa.

I hope you guys become the ones to change this reality by favouring competence over ethnic and religious affiliations. And that you'll reject the disenfranchisement tactics of INEC and register to vote and vote enmasse.

Politics is not a one day battle, sometimes, you play the long game. So even if they keep telling you that 2027 is a forgone conclusion. The only job of a politician is to understand and move with the political terrain. If you become the voting bloc that matters and force them to pander to you, we can all win.

800 Nigerian deportees arrive Katsina from Niger Republic

No fewer than 800 Nigerian deportees have arrived at the Nigeria–Niger Republic border in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

A security source disclosed that the deportees, comprising men, women and children, were conveyed in eight luxury buses from the Niger Republic and arrived at the Jibia–Magama border at about 9:30 a.m. on March 29.

According to the source, the returnees are currently undergoing profiling by officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigeria Police Force (NP), as well as intelligence operatives and troops of 17 Brigade.

“The profiling process is ongoing to ascertain their identities and other relevant details before further action is taken,” the source said.

He added that the deportees would subsequently be moved to Kano State for further processing and necessary assistance.

I’m beginning to see a pattern here, and even though I may be wrong, my conviction is stronger than my doubt.

I have a theory that there’s a reverse APC campaign going on on the TL. Yes, those protest tweets that get deleted one hour after they go viral. They make a post against the government, especially regarding protests, then delete it, and the quotes are filled with the same set of influencers saying things like:

“They threatened him???”
“Ahh, what really happened?”
“Chai, boss calls have been made,” and so on.

Then the people who made and deleted the tweet come out and say, “After God, na government” and “APC is working. You can tweet otherwise on your page 🙏,” to make it look like they were actually threatened.

My theory is that no one threatened anyone. They didn’t go to anyone’s family house to hold them or their family hostage. They were not under duress to tweet the disclaimers or delete them. It is reverse PR—pattern recognition right here. And the aim is to scare people from coming out to protest or speak up.
If you read between the lines, you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. You can’t fóol me.
