The old saying “you grab them by the balls and their hearts and minds will follow” but Today you just tweet. It’s clean, it looks normal and it’s an Intel operatives superweapon. It’s absurdly obvious when, as someone trained in this, takes it apart and does the back checking.

And then everyone jumps on and rt’s the hell out of it and the cycle continues. You’re all, or mostly all, being played and likely, if not definitely, by both sides of a given issue. This is bad. It’s cyber warfare in its most elemental form.

It’s a fucked up situation across the board. But I wanted to prove to myself this is going on. I even had the occasional person tell me I’m wrong for not following what are clearly automated accounts that simply re-tweet questionably sourced material.

And I came to the conclusion that the platform sucks. It’s the ultimate manipulative tool and you have no idea who is out there. Your buttons will be pushed, subtlety. You’ll be praised and rt’d but also steered. You’re being manipulated.

And within 24 hours, I has 2 radically different feeds running even though, supposedly, it’s the same groups (like minded people). Suddenly I’m feeling like I’m being steered in specific directions. I’m getting abusive tweets and pickups from other timelines where I’ve been RT’d

I decided to run an experiment. I created 2 fictitious accounts, both conservative, etc. The only difference was I only followed people I chose to and ignored the the ‘follow me’s’. I checked profiles I followed and ignored the ones that were predominately just re-tweeting.
