DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin just exposed the pure evil: Innocent children trafficked across the open border were RAPED 600 TO 700 TIMES — locked in rooms, forced to service monsters day after day.
THEY ARE BABIES. THEY DON’T DESERVE THIS. NO CHILD DOES.

When he explained why I was late (I was lifting my foot up when catching the ball) …

With a question (If you need to get your foot DOWN when you CATCH it, when do you need to lift your foot UP?)

I finally understood (I need to lift my foot BEFORE I catch it)

And Implemented it (My time dropped by .2)

Great coaches ask great questions.

Pretty crazy differences in retrospect. Positions are fine to look at, more importantly however, is how you get there & move through them to ultimately direct energy into the baseball.

THE SECOND AT-BAT TELLS THE STORY

The first at-bat gives a scout a look.

The second at-bat starts the evaluation.

Why?

Because baseball is a game of adjustment.

THE FIRST LOOK CAN FOOL YOU

A hitter may ambush a first-pitch fastball
He may hit a mistake
He may look good because the pitcher helped him
He may chase three pitches and make weak contact
He may strike out on a nasty breaking ball that would get a lot of hitters out

One at-bat is information.

It is not the full answer.

THE ADJUSTMENT AT-BAT

The scout wants to see what happens next.

Did the hitter learn anything?
Did he recognize the pitcher’s pattern?
Did he change his timing?
Did he handle the same pitch better?
Did he chase the same breaking ball again?
Did he compete deeper into the count?
Did he make the pitcher work?

That second at-bat can tell you more than the first.

THE PITCHER IS BEING SCOUTED TOO

This works both ways.

If a pitcher beats a hitter with a breaking ball in the first at-bat, can he set him up again?

Can he expand?
Can he double up?
Can he throw something unexpected?
Can he pitch backward?
Can he avoid becoming predictable?

Scouts watch the chess match.

Not just the result.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TALENT AND FEEL

Talent can win a pitch.

Feel wins the battle.

A player who can adjust inside the game has a chance to survive as the level rises.

A player who repeats the same mistake tells the scout something too.

THE MANUAL LESSON

Scouts are not just watching what happened.

They are watching what the player learned from what happened.

Players: your first at-bat gets watched.

Your second at-bat gets judged.

I think far too many people nowadays are obsessed with positions rather than sequencing. Chasing positions for positions' sake is a fool's errand.

Chase the sequencing and let positions emerge.
