After the 2019 Corbyn defeat, I took annual leave and went to stay with my parents at their home in rural southern Virginia to knock doors for Bernie. I didn’t grow up there. I didn’t use the Bernie app. I just knocked every door.
What I found was simple: Trump voters were far more open to Bernie than liberal Buttigieg or Klobuchar voters.
Because politics isn’t a line from Trump to Bernie with the “sensible centre” in between. The centre is the status quo. The right and left both challenge it, for worse or for better.
And it’s easier to move people from the right to the left than from the centre to anywhere at all.
One historical myth I think has surprisingly long legs is the idea that for most of human history marriage was between a very young girl and a much older man.
We kinda get that idea laundered to us even through fantasy (Game of Thrones did this a lot) but the reality is just
A funny thing about authoritarian extremists of any stripe is their eagerness to support a regime that violently punishes the people they don’t like, while also feeling confident that the same regime would never harm innocents and would certainly never come for them.
You don't understand Heroism and don't care to.
If Superheroes were real they'd save you. They may disagree with or hate your beliefs, but they'd still save you.
The likely Republican billionaire that dresses as a bat and fights crime at night would save you.
The Good Values corn fed country boy who happens to be a superpowered alien would save you.
The Amazonian raised to hate Men and the world they created would STILL SAVE YOU.
That's the difference. All you've proven is that you can't be trusted w/even fictional power because your power fantasy is letting your political opposites die when you could help.
You didn't piss MAGA off.
You did worse.
You proved them right.
