We lost my dear friend John Lewis six years ago today. Our country lost a hero. I miss him every day.

John Lewis dedicated his life to making the greatness of America accessible to all.

Nowadays, many in our country want to turn back the clock on the things John fought for and erase from history the shoulders upon which John and so many others stood.

We won’t let that happen. We’ll continue fighting John’s fight. And we’ll continue getting into “good trouble.”

On this 60th anniversary of #BloodySunday, we remember the men and women who were beaten, tear gassed, and risked their lives on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama to secure voting rights for all — including my dear friend John Lewis.

The right to vote is a sacred cornerstone of our democracy. There must be free and unfettered access to the ballot box.

On the 75th Anniversary of NATO, I'm reminded of President Truman's famous words:

“We can well afford to pay the price of peace. Our only alternative is to pay the terrible cost of war.”

NATO is vital to global peace and stability. We must protect it.
