FROM IDLENESS TO INDUSTRY: AMG’S PLAN TO CONQUER BORNO’S UNEMPLOYMENT IN 2027
By Ibrahim Abubakar Goni-Abbari
Concerned Citizen, Kaga LGA
Let us confront the reality without flinching: unemployment remains one of Nigeria’s most formidable economic challenges in 2026 and beyond.
The crisis is particularly severe among young Nigerians. Behind every unemployment figure is a young person with ambitions, a family depending on that person, and a community waiting for its potential to be unlocked.
This is not merely an economic statistic. It is a development challenge with serious social consequences. When a generation remains idle for too long, insecurity can flourish, crime can increase, and underdevelopment can become deeply entrenched.
For Borno State, therefore, the question is not simply who will govern in 2027. The more important question is: what kind of economic future will our young people inherit?
THE SOLUTION IS SKILLS, NOT HANDOUTS
Handouts alone cannot build a prosperous state. Sustainable development requires capacity, productivity and opportunity.
What builds a stronger society is a young man or woman equipped with a practical skill, the right tools, access to capital and a pathway into productive employment.
That is the proposition I see in the vision of Alhaji Engr. Mustapha Gubio, FNSE, the APC Governorship Candidate for Borno State, ahead of the 2027 election.
WHY AMG?
One of the reasons his proposed approach resonates with me is that his commitment to empowering young people did not begin with politics.
Long before seeking public office, Engr. Gubio invested in people, supporting the training and development of young Nigerians and connecting skills with real opportunities.
That experience reflects an important principle: when government empowers its youth, it invests in the future of the entire state.
As Governor, the vision should be to move beyond temporary interventions and establish a sustainable skills-to-employment ecosystem across Borno State.
MASS VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL TRAINING
Borno needs a workforce equipped for the economy of tomorrow.
A serious administration under Engr. Gubio can prioritise large-scale vocational and technical training in areas such as:
- Mechatronics and electrical technology
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
- Fashion and garment production
- Agro-processing
- Welding and fabrication
- Carpentry and furniture production
- Automotive and mechanical services
- Construction-related trades
- Other skills connected directly to Borno’s agricultural, industrial and commercial potential
The objective should be clear: train people for opportunities that actually exist in the economy.
STARTER PACKS AND SEED CAPITAL
Training without the means to practise a skill can leave graduates stranded.
That is why skills acquisition must be linked to practical support.
Young people who successfully complete approved training programmes should have access to starter tools, equipment and appropriate seed capital, enabling them to establish small businesses, cooperatives and productive enterprises.
A graduate should not leave a skills programme with only a certificate. He or she should leave with something that can generate income.
INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS AND JOB ABSORPTION
Government cannot create every job directly. But government can create an environment where businesses grow, industries expand and young people connect with employers.
Borno should therefore pursue stronger partnerships with manufacturers, technology companies, agricultural processors, construction firms and other private-sector operators.
Strategic partnerships with established Nigerian companies, including manufacturers such as Innoson, alongside technology hubs and local enterprises, can help create pathways through which trained young people transition from classrooms and workshops into productive employment.
The goal is simple: skills should lead to opportunities.

“When a Town Becomes a Family: Gubio’s Day of Solidarity” By Bulama Yerima
The ancient town of Gubio in Borno State was transformed into a festival of solidarity and joy as its illustrious son, Engineer Alhaji Mustapha Gubio FNSE, returned home in triumph. The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate was greeted with scenes that spoke not just of politics, but of deep communal pride and unity.
From dawn, all roads leading into Gubio became rivers of humanity. Traders abandoned their stalls, farmers left their fields and children clutched their parents’ hands as the town converged to welcome the man many see as a beacon of their collective aspirations. It was less a political rally than a heartfelt thanksgiving, a reaffirmation of belonging and shared destiny.
Standing before the jubilant crowd, Engineer Mustapha Gubio’s voice carried both gratitude and nostalgia. He recalled the steadfast support his people once gave Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, urging them to remain united as he pledged to build upon Zulum’s achievements. “The era of positive change in Gubio has just begun,” he declared, assuring that his leadership would be inclusive and rooted in the welfare of the people.
The gathering was graced by dignitaries whose presence underscored the significance of the moment. Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno praised the people of Gubio for their loyalty, describing Engineer Gubio as a worthy son of the soil with the capacity to lead Borno into a new era. M.T. Monguno as commonly known, also commended Governor Zulum for endorsing Mustafa Gubio as the APC candidate ahead of the 2027 elections, expressing confidence in the party’s continued success.
APC Deputy State Chairman, Garba Mulima, reminded the crowd that the ongoing engagements across Northern Borno were not campaign rallies but appreciation tours, designed to thank communities, traditional leaders and supporters for their unwavering commitment to the party.
The council chairman, Mali Bulama Mali Gubio, echoed this sentiment, expressing gratitude for the recognition of his people’s contributions.
The event drew a constellation of political figures, including members of the National Assembly, state legislators, party executives, and local government chairmen. Yet beyond the political undertones, the homecoming radiated values of respect, loyalty, and unity. It was a vivid portrait of a community ready to play a pivotal role in shaping a peaceful and prosperous Borno State.
For the people of Gubio, the day was more than a welcome but a declaration of readiness. A readiness to embrace leadership that prioritizes development, peace, youth empowerment, and community progress.
In their chants, songs, and smiles, one message rang clear: Gubio stands firmly behind its son and together, they are prepared to build a greater tomorrow.
In Damasak, Engr Gubio Pledges to Continue Zulum’s Good Works, Says “I Will Continue From Where My Boss Stops
The ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) appreciation tour across Northern Borno has reached Damasak, headquarters of Mobbar Local Government Area, with the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Borno State, Engr. Mustapha Gubio, FNSE, and the Senator representing Borno North Senatorial District, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, leading the delegation.
The visit is part of the APC leadership’s continued engagement with communities across Northern Borno to appreciate party supporters, stakeholders, traditional leaders and residents for their sustained support and solidarity.
The delegation received a warm welcome upon arrival in Damasak, as a large gathering of APC supporters, community leaders, party stakeholders and residents turned out to receive Engr. Gubio, Senator Monguno and members of their entourage.
Addressing the gathering, Engr. Mustapha Gubio expressed appreciation to the people of Damasak and the entire Mobbar Local Government Area for the warm reception and continued support for the APC.
Gubio pledged to build on the achievements of the incumbent administration, assuring the people that he would continue from where Governor Babagana Umara Zulum stops.
“I will continue from where my boss, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, stops and sustain the good works for the people of Borno State, In Sha Allah,” Gubio said.
He also commended APC supporters and stakeholders in Mobbar for their steadfastness and contributions to the growth of the party in the state.
The APC gubernatorial candidate further assured the people of his commitment to running a transparent, responsive and people-oriented administration, with development extended to communities across Borno State.
Also speaking, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno commended the people of Damasak for the impressive reception accorded the delegation. He thanked them for their continued support and urged them to remain united in their commitment to the progress and development of Borno State.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of Mobbar Local Government Area, Hon. Mohammed M. Aji, welcomed Engr. Gubio, Senator Monguno and the entire APC delegation to the local government.
Aji described the visit as a demonstration of the party leadership’s commitment to maintaining close contact with the grassroots and strengthening the relationship between the APC and its supporters.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the delegation to interact with party stakeholders and residents, appreciate their contributions to the party and further strengthen the relationship between the APC leadership and its grassroots supporters.

National Policy Dialogue on the Psychosocial Impact of Conflict on Children in Nigeria
Conflict has left thousands of Nigerian children carrying trauma, displacement, loss, disrupted education with no coordinated national support system. This dialogue brings stakeholders together to build one: strengthening protections, integrating psychosocial care into humanitarian response, and shaping a national policy framework.
This is more than a conversation, it’s a step toward a coordinated, child-centered national commitment to healing and protection.
Because building a resilient Nigeria starts with protecting the mental health and future of its children.

To my dear people of Lagos Island Constituency 1,
Today, I found myself overwhelmed with emotions, and honestly, words are not enough to express how grateful I am to you.
Seeing you come out in such large numbers to support me during the primary election touched me deeply. I saw pregnant women. I saw our mothers and elderly women. I saw people who made sacrifices just to be there. I still cannot forget seeing a woman who came out with her three-day-old baby simply because she wanted to stand with me and make her voice count.
How do I repay a love like this?
Today, I knelt down because I wanted you to know that I do not take your love, support, solidarity and trust for granted. You stood by me, you believed in me, and you showed me that I am not alone.
This outreach is my little way of saying THANK YOU to every single person who came out for me, prayed for me, encouraged me and stood firmly by me.
