Absurd, right?

A student is bullied for being physically weak in school. Parents complain. The school decalres: "All physically weak students get free Library access."

Seniors rag a few freshers. The college responds: "Every fresher gets free pizza every weekend."

Ridiculous, because the solution has nothing to do with the actual problem.

That exactly is Caste Reservation in a nutshell which is presented as a solution to Caste Discrimination.

If Caste discrimination is the problem. Reservation is not a cure for casteism.

A casteist won't suddenly stop being casteist because you got admission or a Govt job through Reservation. You don't eliminate prejudice by handing out quotas.

Also, you are taking an individual or group-specific instance of wrongdoing and responding with a blanket benefit to an entire demographic. Which is complete nonsense.

And just like the free coffee, books or pizzas, blanket benefits have consequences.
Someone has to pay for them which affects the budget.
Merit is the cost being paid for Reservations.
And when benefits are distributed based on group identity rather than individual circumstances, people outside that category can reasonably question the fairness of the system.

Most importantly, reservation does NOT directly punish the discriminator, or change his mindset, or stop discriminatory behaviour.

So don't sell it as a cure for Casteism.

You don't eliminate Caste discrimination by creating a system that continues to classify people by Caste.

So don't confuse handing out Quotas with eliminating prejudice.
