I cry every time I think about the kindness extended to me by that protective team. But especially the courageous way that intern permitted me to advocate for my own wellness.
Yeah.
I will remember that as one of the most powerful teachable moments I've ever had.

Her: "Have someone else cover this team. You need to be where your dad is."
She wasn't backing down. And the rest of team trained their eyes on me in tender solidarity.
Her: "Do what you would make us do."
And there was no comeback for that.
Nope.

And they held space with me in that room as I released those tired, scared tears. They did.
But that intern. That sweet, brave intern. She stood up and came right up to me.
Her: "Go home, Dr. Manning. Home to your dad and your family. You need to be there. Like, now."
Explaining the trauma we experience to our family is challenging
Trying to explain how weโre able to see traumatic things without it ruining us is more challenging
Iโve learned that while I need that skill to do my job, I also need to process trauma to be human.
