SMP civilization 2 could have gone worse for me

Nufuli is my best friend. A 19 year old man who has struggled with the weight of the world on his shoulders for years, more weight than most adults bear on a regular basis.

We’ve known eachother for nearly 5 years and I’ve never known him as anything other than a kind person with one of the craziest work ethics I have ever seen. This 17 then 18 and now 19 year old man took on the sole responsibility of supporting an entire family onto his back. And day in and day out, sleepless nights one after the other, he continues to rise to the occasion and provide.

But now, his family has taken a very substantial loss. After years of standing strong and battling with immense illness, Nufuli’s father has passed away. It’s heartbreaking to see this news come to light, both he and this community have lost a beautiful soul.

But I’d like to draw attention to the fact that this isn’t the end of the story. I’ve spoken with Nufuli a lot over the last 24 hours and I couldn’t be more proud of him. He’s adjusting and learning on how to deal with this change along with the pain and grief that comes with loss.

But even so, Nufuli needs a break, but that’s not something his family can afford without our help. Because of this, I want to put out a call to action on some goals for Nuf and his Family.

In the replies I’ve linked his Ko-Fi that you can use to support him and his sister during these troubling times. Please do what you comfortably can and support this family in need.

Also stay tuned for events in the coming days, I’ve talked with an event organizer to set up an event with viewer donation incentives, more information including a roster and event details will be given soon.

Every dime of the proceeds will go straight to Nufuli & his sister.

this is exactly the conversation i was trying to have. diversity itself is not the problem and it never has been. different races, cultures, genders, disabilities, identities and lived experiences naturally bring different perspectives into spaces, and that’s important because it allows communities and audiences to grow instead of becoming an echo chamber. people who come from different backgrounds will naturally see the world differently, create differently and inspire differently and that should be appreciated.
the issue is when diversity stops being genuine and starts becoming performative. there’s a huge difference between being valued for what you bring to the table and being treated like a checkbox, a quota or a “look how inclusive we are” moment. nobody wants to feel like their identity mattered more than their actual talent, personality, work ethic or creativity. i think a lot of people misunderstand what poc creators are saying when we talk about this. we are not saying “ignore race” or “diversity is bad.” we’re saying don’t reduce us down to ONLY that. if the first thing people see when they look at us is “representation” instead of an actual person, creator or individual, then that completely defeats the point.
real inclusion is when someone can walk into a space and feel respected for everything they are, not just the part that makes a project look diverse from the outside.
