Rita gasped in surprise and pain as Negan twisted her arm behind her back, the sudden motion making her stumble slightly.

Rita smiled gratefully as Joe held the door open for her. she stepped inside, shaking out her damp umbrella as she did so.
“ thanks , Joe,” she said, glancing at him with a warm expression.
“ you’re a lifesaver —— it's raining cats and dogs out there. ”
“ you look like you could use some coffee. or . . . whatever helps with jet lag, i guess . ”
Her smile was warm and genuine, the kind that came easily when she wasn’t second-guessing herself.

They were still standing in the middle of some nondescript sidewalk, surrounded by Miami's humid night air.
