Hmmm reading this post makes me want to once again share tears, I don’t know if its tears of joy or emotional feelings for the feeling of pains sickle cell patients go through, including myself.

Am also an SS and I feel the pains, sometimes it will be like your life should end but we are born to be a warrior.

Am so lucky to come this far, am 43 years old and am still going through it but not as severe as I was before, during my childhood I and even so many people around me including my parents could not believe I will make it upto 20 years before I give up the ghost but here I am at 43 married with children.

Amid the flood of felicitations following my convocation as Overall Best Graduating Student of LAUTECH, I find it necessary to address the stir around my NELFUND appreciation post. I accept the praise, life changing offers and the backlash, in good faith. Still, it is only fair to set the record straight.

I hail from a village in Osun State, raised in a modest family of five. I attended public primary and secondary schools, not by choice, but because even the most inexpensive private schools were beyond our means.

Even then, survival itself; food and clothing was a daily struggle. I walked miles to school each morning, while my parents laboured as jacks-of-all-trades to make ends meet.

For nine defining years before I entered university, we lived within sight of basic amenities yet beyond our reach, no electricity, no television; just lanterns and candles. Against these odds, I earned a scholarship and now this distinction.

In my third year, a coursemate’s father, someone I had once tutored academically, gifted me my first smartphone which I am still using till now. On several occasions, lecturers, moved by quiet compassion, provided me with clothing. There are many other instances, too numerous to recount.

So, I say this plainly, not all of us are born with a silver spoon. Some of us climbed the ladder by holding on to every rung of legitimate support we could find.

As an engineering student aspiring to make academic history, should I resort myself to blaming my family’s financial situation for my inability to afford fees and essentials like a reliable smartphone or laptop needed for skills and certifications?

For me personally, NELFUND was not incidental; it was instrumental and to acknowledge what helped one’s journey is neither propaganda nor misplaced allegiance. It is simply an act of appreciation.

Why boomslang is a very dangerous snake

First, its venom is more toxic than that of many cobras.

Second, when boomslang bites, the person may not feel anything for several hours. This will bring false sense of "nothing dey happen" but na lie o. Many things including death will happen. After many hours, when the venom starts to act, one of the major thing it does is to attack the blood. It will draw out all the compounds in the blood that can be used to clot and use them to form small small clots. This takes away the ability of the blood to clot any longer and blood may start coming out of the victims nose, ears and so on due to internal bleeding, external bleeding and hemorrhaging. The victim may also feel sleepy, confused, nauseated and so on.

Therefore, if this snake should bite someone, they should be taken to the hospital for antivenom and treatment immediately, even if they don't feel anything. This is one advantage of being bitten by the snake. You have time to save yourself unless you choose not to. Please, don't say oh, the snake is small, it's a baby. It's venom cannot hurt me. That's what Karl Schmidt who has even worked with snake and was an expert thought. The boomslang that bit him was a juvenile and he thought the snake is too small to produce fatal dose. He kept writing and documenting the symptoms he felt until.... Baba dropped dead.

Good news, they live on trees and generally avoid humans. You won't even know they're there. They all have egg-shaped heads and very big eyes.

They're found in Africa, Nigeria inclusive. They're not much in Southwestern Nigeria and North but are prominent in the middle belt and main South. Share this, it might save someone.
