After repeated representations from the professional community, the Tax Audit Report due date may eventually be extended.

But the real concern is timing.

Such relief should be announced well in advance, not at the last moment—after professionals have struggled with deadlines and even considered approaching courts.

Timely decisions matter. Taxpayers and professionals deserve certainty, not last-minute relief.

For AY 2026–27, non-audit business/professional ITRs were due by 31 Aug, leaving only one month to complete tax audits by 30 Sept.
Audit requires reconciliation of books, GST, TDS/TCS, AIS, Form 26AS and preparation of Form 3CD. Quality compliance cannot be rushed.
CBDT should extend the tax-audit-report due date to 31 Oct 2026.
