In all honesty yes. With the ABS being implemented there’s no reason why the “intent” can’t be looked at. However for that being said, it’s a mental decision and it’s a thing we all are taught when growing up with the game. Bottom line up front, just don’t turn at all towards second because defenses know that 99/100 times the umpire is looking for this to see if the runner is free game or not. So lesson learned if the play is close and the ball is near you always turn towards the dugout.

Like it or not, 99.99% of the time you turn towards second regardless the umpire is going to call you out of the opposing team tags you before you get back to the bag. This is why coaches always teach you to never to do this and give umpires a chance to call you out. Rule clearly says judgment of the umpire but like I said 99.99% they’re getting called out.
