Most people treat wisdom teeth like an inconvenience. Something that grows in wrong, causes pain, and gets thrown away. Recent research suggests we may have been discarding something far more valuable than anyone realized.

Wisdom teeth contain mesenchymal stem cells inside their dental pulp, the soft living tissue at the core of the tooth. These are not ordinary cells. Stem cells are the body's raw material, capable of transforming into many different types of specialized tissue. And the ones found in wisdom teeth are remarkably versatile.

Studies have shown these cells can develop into cardiac muscle cells to help repair heart tissue after a heart attack. They can become neural cells, opening possibilities for stroke recovery and diseases like Parkinson's. They can also become bone and cartilage for skeletal repair.

What makes wisdom teeth especially valuable is the timing. They are removed between ages 17 and 25, exactly when stem cells are at their most potent and adaptable. Young stem cells survive longer, respond better, and integrate more effectively into damaged tissue.

And unlike embryonic stem cells which carry ethical controversy, dental stem cells come from tissue that was already being removed. No extra procedures. No ethical complications. Just a resource we have been throwing in a medical waste bin for decades.

There are now companies that will cryogenically preserve your wisdom teeth stem cells at extraction, the same way parents bank umbilical cord blood at birth.

Orforglipron: The Oral GLP-1 Era Has Truly Begun

🔹 Orforglipron (Foundayo™) is now the first FDA-approved once-daily oral nonpeptide GLP-1 receptor agonist, marking a major shift for patients who prefer effective metabolic therapy without injections.

🔹 In type 2 diabetes, the ACHIEVE-3 trial showed superior HbA1c reduction and greater weight loss versus oral semaglutide, positioning orforglipron as a potentially powerful oral incretin option.

🔹 Its benefits appear to extend beyond glucose lowering, with improvements also seen in body weight, systolic blood pressure, and lipid/triglyceride parameters, reinforcing its cardiometabolic relevance.

🔹 In the ATTAIN obesity program, orforglipron delivered substantial weight loss (up to 14.7%), highlighting its emerging role not only in diabetes but also in obesity management.

🔹 The biggest practical advantage is ease of use—a once-daily pill without food/water timing restrictions—although clinicians must remain vigilant for GI adverse effects, discontinuation risk, and pulse rate increase, consistent with the GLP-1 class effect.

Bottom Line

Orforglipron may become a major disruptor in diabetes and obesity care—bringing potent GLP-1 efficacy into a far more acceptable oral format for real-world patients.

Glucometer devices aren't as precise as hospital lab machines. The ISO 15197:2013 standard dictates exactly how accurate these home glucometers must be to be sold and used safely.

The main rule is simple. If your blood sugar is below 100 mg/dL, the meter reading should be no more than 15 points higher or lower than the real value (at least 95% of the time).

If it's 100 or higher, the reading should be within 15% of the true number (again, 95% of readings).

For example, if true blood sugar is 105, a good meter could show anywhere from about 89 to 121 and still pass. They test this using three different batches of test strips. There's also a safety check. Almost all results (99%) must be safe enough that they wouldn't cause a person to make a dangerous decision about insulin or food.

This standard exists because tiny differences are normal due to how the strips work, temperature, how you use it, etc. In the video, the meters showed 100 to 111 values which are only about 10% difference and is completely normal and safe according to this standard. It's not perfect lab accuracy, but it's good enough for daily life with diabetes.
