The Hannibal Directive, which prevented abductions at all costs, was reportedly applied in multiple places. Israeli reporting and former Defense Minister Gallant have acknowledged this, and Israeli fire did kill some hostages.

That part is no longer fringe.

The intelligence failure was real, and that leaves us more questions than answers.
