StratcomCentre: Ukraine has every right to resume strikes on Russian oil refineries after Russia violated the proposed energy ceasefire, President Volodymyr Zelensky reaffirmed on October 15.

Since October 12, Ukraine has refrained from targeting Russian refineries. Russia, meanwhile, has launched more than 50 missiles and 1,000 attack drones against Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure, gas fields, residential buildings and shopping centres.

According to Ukrainian authorities, at least 35 civilians have been killed and more than 120 wounded during this period.

Ukraine supported the ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump. Russia did not observe it for a single day.

Ukraine remains committed to a lasting peace, but any ceasefire must be reciprocal and respected by both sides. Continued international pressure on Russia, reliable intelligence sharing and access to critical air defence technology remain essential to protecting Ukrainian lives.
