Labeling Black people as violent, when your people lynched, tortured, and burned Black folks alive, is deflection. White people even brought their children to watch.
I walk on ground salted by the legacy of my ancestors, in a world built by Black hands that were shackled. The music in my ears, the words I speak, the very concepts of freedom and justice I take for granted are borrowed from a people my lineage has systematically oppressed.
