This morning, the Russians launched a brutal attack on a busy intersection in Pechenihy, Kharkiv region – a location with a post office and stores, surrounded only by residential buildings.

As of now, 10 people have been reported killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Many people have been injured and are receiving all necessary medical care. First responders have already extinguished the fire, and all emergency and response services continue working at the site. All the circumstances of this tragedy are being established.

We will definitely respond to this Russian strike. And it is equally important that our partners also complement our just kinetic responses with their own actions to put pressure on Russia and support Ukraine.

Nothing to see here… just Russian author German Sadulaev explaining to his audience why killing civilians makes more sense than killing soldiers:

“Here, think about it for yourselves.

It’s difficult to kill a soldier on the front. Soldiers take cover, disperse, and do everything they can to avoid being killed. That’s what war is.

On the other hand, civilians are easy to kill. Civilians gather without shelters, crowd together at concerts and shopping malls, and generally behave in exactly the right way to become victims.

Now consider this. If you spend one expensive missile, for example, you might kill 10 soldiers. But that same missile could easily kill 1,000 civilians.

And what does killing 1,000 civilians mean?

Among 1,000 random civilians, there will be 10 soldiers on leave, 90 future conscripts (mobilization potential), 200 defense-industry workers, 200 infrastructure workers, and another 500 or so random people. Collateral losses.

In other words, striking civilians is even more advantageous from a purely military perspective.

That is the logic of total war.

And if we think that our enemy won’t start applying this logic — and that we won’t apply the same logic in response —because we are human, because of this thing called “humanism”...

Then we have a lot of faith in humanity.
