Asked my agent orchestrator for an agency and it hired Newton, Schrodinger & Archimedes 😭🔬
🍎 Every error has an equal and opposite error
🐱 Bug is fixed and not fixed until deploy
🛁 EUREKA! ...then it breaks again
@thsottiaux this a feature?? 👀
After finishing GOMYCODE..the intention was just internship..but Omo it was shit . Just one day Mr teacher just. Called me there's a program upstairs.on getting there someone from @Africastalking said"if you focus i you will win money and if you do better you will win more money"

Earlier this year, one of the first real projects I ever worked on was something I never documented publicly.
My team and I built an AI you could access without a smartphone or internet connection.
Through USSD, SMS and even through a normal phone call.
We called it Dial AI.
The story actually started with a one-week program by the @Africastalking team, where we were introduced to Generative AI, APIs, and how technologies like USSD, SMS and Voice could be built with the Africa’s Talking APIs.
At the time, I was still very early in my software engineering journey.
And this was before I was building with the kind of powerful coding agents (like Claude, codex…) I use today.
A lot of it was us learning, writing the code, breaking things, reading documentation, debugging APIs and trying again until it worked.
Most AI products assume you have a smartphone, internet connection and enough data to access them.
But that isn’t everyone’s reality.
Especially in rural and low connectivity communities in Nigeria.
So we asked ourselves:
What if AI could meet people through the technology they already have?
- Someone could dial a USSD code, ask for help and receive an AI response through SMS.
- Someone could send an SMS and talk to the AI from their inbox.
- And someone could literally call a phone number, speak to the AI, and hear its response back through the call.
We explored use cases around things like health guidance, translation, education and general assistance.
We eventually took Dial AI into the hackathon.
And somehow, this first serious project of ours went on to take 1st place at AfricasTalking Generative Ai and APIs hackathon.
We won $500, and that is my first hackathon win. 🏆
Looking at the code now, there are a lot of things I would engineer differently 😂
The architecture could be cleaner, reliability could be stronger and testing could be better.
There’s simply a lot I know now that I didn’t know when we first built it.
But that’s exactly why I’m proud of Dial AI.
It represents where I started. One of the first real projects that made software engineering feel real to me.
And I’m not leaving it there.
I’m going to come back to Dial AI, rebuild and improve parts of it and eventually open-source it so other developers can learn from it, contribute, and build on top of it.
Especially within the @Africastalking developer community, I’d love to see people take the idea further and explore more ways AI can reach people through USSD, SMS and Voice.
