May 2026 marked significant progress in Nigeria’s education sector, with reforms advancing digital learning, research, teacher education, examination integrity, data-driven governance, scholarship support, admissions transparency, school safety, and global partnerships strengthening access, quality, accountability, innovation, and future-ready learning nationwide.
Accordingly, all Colleges of Education that have successfully undergone the National Universities Commission (NUC) Resource Verification process are hereby directed not to admit fresh candidates into any affiliated degree programme with effect from the 2026/2027 academic session. However, students who have already been admitted into existing affiliated degree programmes shall be permitted to complete their studies and graduate accordingly.
Consequently, all new admissions into Colleges of Education shall henceforth be limited to NCE programmes only. The NCE qualification shall continue to serve as the approved pathway for progression into degree programmes, in line with the Federal Government's policy direction for teacher education in Nigeria.
I once visited a car care center called Petromin here in Saudi Arabia. After receiving their services, I was genuinely impressed, not just by the quality of the work, but by the entire system they have built around customer retention.
Their infrastructure is simple yet modern. The workers are highly efficient, and the entire process is well organized.
What caught my attention most was the strategy they use to keep customers coming back. When you visit for the first time, they register your vehicle in their system and place a sticker on your car indicating the date of your next service.
But it doesn't stop there.
They maintain a complete record of your vehicle's maintenance history and continuously track its service needs. They notify you when it is time to change your battery, replace your tires, perform an engine flush, and carry out other routine maintenance tasks.
Over time, you naturally become attached to their service because they have all the information about your vehicle and proactively remind you of what needs attention. Whenever a maintenance issue arises, they are the first place that comes to mind.
Seeing how effective and efficient their model is, I suggested to one of them that they should consider bringing a similar investment to Nigeria.
Interestingly, most of the workers there are Filipinos. He told me that it would be difficult for them to move to Nigeria and establish such a business at the moment. However, he made an interesting point.
He said, “Why don't you transfer the idea and implement it in Nigeria yourself, since you have witnessed the entire procedure firsthand?”
That got me thinking.
So, for those who have some extra capital to invest and are looking for a business opportunity, I am sharing this idea free of charge.
Sometimes, the most valuable opportunities are not new inventions. They are successful systems that can be adapted and implemented where they do not yet exist.

China has truly transformed its automotive industry. Today, it produces luxury vehicles with impressive technology, quality, and affordability.
If quality and reliability remain consistent, Chinese brands could become dominant players in the global market.
This is also a wake-up call for our mechanics and technicians. As more of these vehicles enter our roads, developing the skills to maintain and repair them could create enormous opportunities.
