Mike Derry's victory in the UCP nomination contest in Calgary-Shaw raises important questions about Danielle Smith’s control over her party and who Mike Derry represents.
Smith had a favourite candidate who lost to forces of the extremist far-right in her party. Derry is certainly an extremist and voters need to know if he’s a separatist.
Derry's campaign was managed by longtime activist of the far-right, Craig Chandler and received prominent public support from leaders in Alberta's separatist, anti-Canada movement. His campaign also highlighted the endorsement of Darrell Komick, who ran for UCP president as the party's pro-independence candidate.
If he chose to campaign alongside one of the leading advocates for Alberta separatism within today's UCP, Calgary-Shaw voters deserve to know whether he shares those views.
Is Danielle Smith welcoming yet another separatist into her caucus? Calgary-Shaw voters deserve to know. Is Mike Derry running to truly represent the people of Calgary-Shaw or is he is running to represent the views of extremists who hope to break up this country?
Premier Smith cites an Elections Alberta deadline for keeping Water Not Coal from a 2026 referendum.
However, she seems poised to disregard an Elections Alberta deadline in order to redraw electoral boundaries for the next election.

The Alberta NDP making an election-style pledge on affordability.
The plan includes increasing minimum wage to $18, cutting the gas tax when oil prices are high, taking steps it claims will bring down grocery prices and measures it argues will help first time home buyers.

David Parker, who illegally obtained and leaked Alberta‘s list of electors, refuses to cooperate with Elections Alberta investigation and refuses to sign an affidavit that he will not leak the list further. Yet government of Alberta still quarterbacks separatists.

Canada is deeply concerned about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and reaffirm our opposition to Israeli settlement expansion and settler violence in the West Bank.
Earlier today, I spoke with President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss the measures taken by the Palestinian Authority to strengthen accountability, governance, and democratic institutions, in which Hamas can play no part.
We will continue to promote peace and stability in the region, and work closely with partners toward this goal.

If you believe he’s not deserving of the Norris, that says something about your hockey knowledge. Biggest litmus test in hockey
Please see this important statement from MLA Sharif Haji on the recent horrific Islamophobic attack in St. Albert.

The 5 major daily newspapers in Alberta are still covering the UCP's plans to gerrymander Alberta's electoral boundaries on their front pages.
Look at that headline: "UCP to redraw map."
Not an independent commission - their scheme is politically directed. The fix is in.
