@healy_trader Rio does trade freight derivatives themselves now... So I don't understand why do they need Vitol if it's purely risk management. I know that Rio has an internal restriction to make sure no single position over 25%. It might be something to do with Simandou or Canadian freight.
Is this for their West Aus fuel freight or Capes? Vitol has a JV that sells diesel into Pilbara. Or is Vitol going deep into capes freight trading, I support this 100% cuz someone else has been manipulating the shit out of C3
Not exactly, charts and data can be interpreted into different views. I think its when you are trying to "prove" your view and actively find data to support that view ignoring other key indicators is the trap that many have fallen into. Inventory data is a very good example in this case, I believe the Chinese has sent a very strong message to the oil market.
There's a saying "the market is always right" and probably many disagree after watching the oil market since the war began including me around May.
However, after finally having some time to rest and look at 1H26 from a wider view and not trapped in my own circle of thoughts, you realized that the phrase can't be more right...
No matter how much you want to ridicule DJT, he knows he moves the market and he makes full use of it to his goal. The US SPR release condition 1:1.2, Middle East contingency pipelines, relieved Iranian/Russian oil sanction, deliberate weakened Chinese import, run cuts and increased supply from LatAM have all cushioned the world from an industrial nightmare.
Sometimes price doesn't always correlate itself with a fixed set of charts that the industry is used to analyze/forecast which is why this past 4 months will be a new course for oil trading 101.
@contang_o Iranian wants to sell oil, trump wants lower oil price. Reaching a deal solves both problems but Iranian has to live with lower oil price which is another problem.
And also, no one in the right mind will buy/trade Iranian until a clear path to proper agreement.
we just wait for tanker tickers to explode in the coming weeks, probably a much better choice than sleepless nights trading oil.
Prices across several commodities are starting to dip due to cheaper energy aka production cost.
If you watched the pod with @JackFarley96@ed_fin early in the conflict, we are approaching the promised land.
@contang_o To be fair, no one is able to give an "accurate" figure but some are showing way stronger signal than others.
The interesting trend is more Omanian route passage without AIS off, very strong signal
@contang_o I stopped trading oil futures since early March after I realized the market is trading on tweets. It turns out to be a good decision after Chinese inventory and import are showing more bearish signal than what oil bulls were expecting in Mar/Apr... One for trading textbook
The big Oil Companies are not dropping their price at the pump commensurate with the sharply lower prices they are paying for Oil. Those prices are dropping like a rock! In other words, customers are being “gouged.” I have instructed the DOJ to immediately start looking into this. Gasoline prices better start going down a lot faster than what I’m seeing! Indonesia’s commodity export agency will focus on monitoring the price of key raw-material exports instead of intervening in trade, according to a senior official https://t.co/3uiG47dVVO
ACCORDING TO THE FINANCIAL TIMES, ABOUT 15 SHIPS PER DAY ARE USING THE OMANI CHANNEL WITH U.S. AIR COVER SUPPORT. MARITIME EXPERTS WARN THAT THE PRACTICE INCREASES THE RISK OF NAVIGATION ACCIDENTS AND COLLISIONS IN AN ALREADY CONGESTED WATERWAY.
In CHAINA this week and heard some interesting stuff. The next World Cup is happening in Morocco, Portugal and Spain. The Chinese has been tasked to build the infrastructure to/and build the new stadiums in Morocco. Mission is to complete the rail connection from port by 2028 to meet construction deadline before 2030.
Only the Chinese can pull this off which means the Chinese will likely be supplying building materials too. Did I hear bullish SMX/handy?
