Lately read quite some materials about the history and concepts of the (forgotten already) Christian based teachings ( Manichaeism, Catharism). Persian by origin, Mani was tortured to death for his, very peacefull, teachings. Cathars beliefs were strongly influenced by Manichaeism, and naturally became popular among population. The Cathars were dualists who believed in two gods: a good god of the spirit and an evil god of the physical world. They rejected many Catholic doctrines and lived ascetic lives.

Both teachings saw this material world as being originally dominated by evil, and men's task being to keep it from complete darkness. Modest ambition :). Or simply realistic?

When it started being too popular :), Catholic Church decided to show them "who is the boss"

The Cathar Crusade(1209–1229), was a military campaign initiated by the Catholic Church to eliminate the Cathar religious movement before it spreads all over European Continent

One of the most infamous events was Massacre at Béziers (1209), where the entire population was killed. The famous phrase, "Kill them all; God will know his own" comes from there...

On March 16, 1244, approximately 210 to 215 Cathars who refused to recant their faith were led down the mountain and burned alive in a massive bonfire. That was the final episode of cathars movement.

Reading news, seeing videos of complete demolition of the country and its population by massive unselected bombings ("Kill them all; God will know his own"), and same in response, together with sudden silence of those "humanitarian activists" who were loud recently (when it was "appreciated" and profitable),hard to avoid suspecting these ancient teachings make sense
