On Sunday, 22 February 2026, police confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old man in connection with an alleged r@pe incident that reportedly took place at a TVET college in Mthatha. The incident is said to have occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 14 February 2026, at approximately 06:00.
According to preliminary reports, a 19-year-old female student had been socialising with a group of individuals at one of the student residences on campus. At some point during the gathering, the student lost consciousness after consuming liquor.

The victim later regained consciousness and noticed signs that raised concerns of a possible s€xual assault. The matter was subsequently reported to the authorities, prompting an immediate investigation.
Police officers responded to the complaint and initiated standard investigative procedures. As part of the process, forensic evidence was collected, and samples were taken not only from the arrested suspect but also from other individuals identified as persons of interest. These samples will be analysed as part of the ongoing investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities have indicated that investigations are still underway, and further details will be made available as the case progresses. The 25-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Monday (today), 23 February 2026, where he will face a formal charge of r@pe. The court proceedings will determine the next steps in the legal process.
