33 people are shot dead in South Africa every day. This week, the UN handed that country the gavel at its Arms Trade Treaty conference.

South Africa passed some of the strictest gun laws on earth. Citizens surrendered their guns under threat of prison. Then police tasked with destroying those guns sold them to street gangs.

More than 1,000 murders have been traced to those firearms, including hundreds of children.

The state took their guns and armed their killers.

And South Africa isn’t the cautionary tale at this conference. It’s presiding over it.

So I flew to Geneva and said it to their faces.

News24 did not verify its claims about AfriForum’s salaries with anyone, not even Werner Human, before publishing them. Kyle Cowan, Adriaan Basson and Pieter du Toit’s publication, News24, will now have to explain to the Press Ombud why it published incorrect information about Werner Human and AfriForum without verifying it.

Secondly, the claim that only a small portion of AfriForum’s expenditure is directed towards our work and projects in local communities is also false. In fact, 70% of AfriForum’s expenditure is dedicated to advancing AfriForum’s primary mission: building strong, self reliant local communities.

News24’s anti AfriForum activists have become so obsessed with attacking AfriForum that they are now making basic journalistic mistakes by failing to verify their facts. This is why News24 has had to apologise to AfriForum on several occasions for publishing false information about us.
