As @ramatuforgirls our ED put it, "We make a mistake as activists when we don't talk about the oppression young people face. We don't engage them in the struggle for thier own liberation because we think it’s unsafe but all it does is to rob them off a level of self efficacy."1/2

Incoming! A look into what #acshr2022 holds for us this year. A rallying cry and meeting point for all those who care about ending violence against women and girls.
One of the most powerful things we can do is back strategies of resistance led by girls! It is feminist work. It is justice work. #GirlsWorkIsPoliticalWork - join this special event: https://t.co/4ekHFRBOU3
At best, girls are being supported through formal institutions using tools that were never really designed for girls or with girls @Purposeful_org, @ramatuforgirls #BuildingGirlsPowerReport
Girls work collaboratively and we've been funding them in clusters which has been a great learning for us in how girls organize and want to be funded @CRVPF1#FassilMariam @ramatuforgirls @Purposeful_org#ZaneleSibanda
“There’s a fundamental shift that needs to happen in how we get funding into the hands of girls. The access needs to be as effective as possible for them. We cannot afford for them to be locked out of resources that are gathered in their name.” - @ramatuforgirls
“We must always support girls to ask why things are the way they are and support them in imagining how things can be better. This is how we transfer theories around power and bring them to life in tangible ways.” - @RosaBransky#BuildingGirlsPower
As a sector, we don't understand girls work- girls power is not girls sitting in a ⭕️ speaking to funders. Girls work is calls in the middle of the night, it's not contained in frameworks and structures @ramatuforgirls #BuildingGirlsPowerReport@Purposeful_org
“Giving girls the space to understand their stories and understand the systems that take away that power. It’s simple: let girls tell their stories. That allows them to understand how power operates in their own lives in concrete ways.” - @za_sibanda
'Girls are locked out of the spaces and resources that are gathered in their name. We have to figure the truest ways to fund girls in the ways that girls want and need to be funded' @ramatuforgirls #BuildingGirlsPowerReport@Purposeful_org@CRVPF1@za_sibanda
'Funders' practices need to shift if we are to truly fund girls, for example girls don't have bank accounts, IDs or registration certificates.' @za_sibanda Listen to girls, take their innovations on receiving & managing the funds @Purposeful_org @ramatuforgirls
Answer from @za_sibanda: We know that philanthropy can be oppressive. We need to think about our practices and challenge the power structures that make it difficult to resource girls. That’s the priority.
Such powerful words @ramatuforgirls !!! Indeed it is an example of structural violence to gather resources in girls name that they can not access! Thank for your sharp analysis always 👏👏👏
