The boomer narrative is a diversion to distract young conservatives from unifying on policies that will save our country. Looks like someone needs them to be as amped as the leftists in some sort of burn it all down frenzy. The ones that don't fall for that despair become bitter which leads to apathy and isolation, nothing changes for the right, and the leftists keep gaining ground. Kind of sounds like that's the goal of this particular narrative. It took leftists 40 years to march through our institutions. The fix is not overnight. It requires unity, solidarity and persistence. Never trust a chaos agent.
Usually, Ms. Beacon would have a point. But Social Security and other legacy benefits is where her argument completely falls apart.
Boomers are not to blame for your education, job problems, internet addiction, lack of a partner, etc.
They are definitely a major problem when it comes to addressing rampant government overspending.
@AmoBishopRoden@catholicbob Not to mention, even with Iran gone or pacified, Israel would have a defensive deterrent rather than regional hegemony. They share a region with Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia.
But logic isn't real to some people. It's all about feelings and narratives
While doing everything in his power to prevent them from having the capabilities to do so? Just accept it was a hanging phrase that the barest amount of common sense and context show what he meant.
And, fwiw, higher gas prices that will come down are a worthwhile price to pay for preventing a Shia clergy death cult from accessing nuclear weapons and having the capability to destroy any city, let alone an American one.
@JackDozerSlappy@AdrienneRoyer Oh then I guess you're absolved of being responsible for anything, never need to vote again, and should just complain on X.
Never mind that only one party is moving us toward a flat tax and the other one wants to expand wealth taxes and income tax brackets .
@catholicbob@AmoBishopRoden I am worried about what Iran will do with a nuclear shield. North Korea is poor, resource scarce, and surrounded by far stronger neighbors. Iran is not.
Think deeper than that Mr. Bob.
Gee whiz?
Is attacking international shipping "restraint"? Lobbing missiles at neighboring countries who aren't involved? Funding proxies in every country in the region for decades? Killing 1000s of Americans since coming to power in 1979?
But who am I to argue with a middle eastern bot account.
๐จ BREAKING: President Trump confirms he is considering SUSPENDING the federal gas tax
LFG! Do it, 47!
In reality, the gas tax should be ABOLISHED, but it's a good start! ๐
This made me chuckle, because it is far from a hypothetical scenario for anyone under 35 years old. We are paying into a system that will either not be there for us t all, or will be preserved by growing so large and taxing us so much it wrecks our economy.
If you were given the choice to lose your Social Security benefits for life while still being required to pay into it, but that meant your children would not ever have to pay into it, would you do it?
I used to debate my teachers in HS (yes, I was that insufferable) and I remember during one debate the teacher, thinking he had check-mated me, said:
"But we already have socialism in the US, with social security, and that is a good system! Not everything should be 'free market.'"
I think that perfectly describes why the Dems want to preserve that system as it is, and why it functions as poorly as it does.
Why anyone else would go along with that, I have no idea.
LMAO. Reporter tries the 'data center jobs are temporary' line on a Pennsylvania tradesman literally building one.
His answer: โEvery job in my field is temporary.โ
Right now, the cause of this discussion (social security) is spending trillions of dollars giving money to retirees. They are absolutely fighting for it to be preserved without changes. That is my point. If we could actually move hearts and minds on this policy, change would come.
Politicians are more terrified of voters than you think. One party did try to reform it before and got slapped hard for doing so.
Vote in primaries, vote out bad incumbents, don't vote in slopulist challengers, 100%. More important than you'd think is changing the opinions of your fellow citizens.
"The system is rigged and what we say/think doesn't matter at all" is great slopulist rhetoric but not really true. Nobody is getting rich off of social security. The inertia keeping that program alive is beneficiaries and a confused opposition.
I made the point that CGT is dumb.
Nobody is claiming oppression.
I will never, however, stop pointing out that major policy mistakes that are snowballing out of control were made by people older than myself, and will no doubt be made by my peers. Social security is a scam and there is an age demographic that makes it impossible to phase out through their voting power.
The point is every American is equally likely to fall for bad ideas, even if those specific ideas change from generation to generation. We elect congress. Voting matters.
It's not enough to say "well I wasn't in congress" to abdicate any duty to change or responsibility for the policies that come down.
We get the rulers we deserve 100% of the time.
@catholicbob It'd be one thing to point out his rambling phrasing is his own fault, it's another thing entirely to say you actually believe that is what he meant. You seem better than that.
I have been pretty critical of Trump on Iran, but this is a shamefully dishonest mischaracterization of what he said, which is that he does not want that to happen, and that he thinks that higher gas prices are worth it to ensure that it doesn't. https://t.co/712o3ic2kz
