$ZEC is not LUNA.

LUNA collapsed because its core economic model failed. Once confidence in the algorithmic stablecoin mechanism broke down, the entire system entered an unstoppable death spiral and ultimately collapsed.

The ZEC situation is fundamentally different. This incident was a security vulnerability that was discovered, disclosed, and patched before any known exploitation occurred. To date, there is no evidence of hidden inflation, no user funds were lost, and the network continued operating while the affected component was temporarily suspended and upgraded.

Every serious financial infrastructure will eventually face technical challenges. What matters is not whether problems occur, but whether those problems are structural flaws or technical issues that can be fixed.

LUNA’s problem was a fatal flaw in its economic design. ZEC’s problem was a software vulnerability that the team identified, contained, and resolved.

In fact, this incident highlighted the Zcash team’s ability to handle a crisis. Once the vulnerability was discovered, the team quickly verified the issue, coordinated with miners, node operators, exchanges, and ecosystem participants, implemented temporary safeguards to contain potential risks, and deployed a fix within a remarkably short period of time. As a result, the vulnerability was never known to have been exploited and no user funds were lost.

In many ways, this event was a real-world stress test. It did not test whether the code was perfect; it tested whether the project could detect problems, coordinate stakeholders, make rapid decisions, and execute a solution when faced with a genuine crisis.

It could even be argued that if a vulnerability of similar severity were discovered in Bitcoin or another major blockchain network, the response might not be as fast as what Zcash achieved. Larger networks have more participants, more stakeholders, and more complex governance structures. While that increases decentralization, it can also slow down decision-making and make emergency coordination significantly more difficult.

For blockchains that aspire to support stablecoins, real-world assets (RWA), tokenized stocks, and AI-driven autonomous transactions, the key question is not whether vulnerabilities will ever exist. As systems become more complex and AI capabilities continue to advance, vulnerabilities are increasingly inevitable. What the market will ultimately value is a project’s ability to detect risks early, contain damage quickly, communicate transparently, and deploy effective fixes.

From this perspective, the most important takeaway from the ZEC incident is not the vulnerability itself, but the execution and crisis-management capabilities demonstrated by the team. A team that can act decisively under pressure and successfully resolve a critical issue is often more deserving of long-term trust than a project that has simply never been tested.
