@popdropcorn@_Flamsey Not all of them. Some CDs had a protection where it checked for a legitimate version of Windows (meaning 95, 98, 2000, ME and XP usually) and if your version was anything else (Win7+) it didn't allow you to run the game. I faced this issue with quite a few CDs from German devs.
@WingEmperorBD@PermaineGratt@RachelLeishman America in particular has a history/culture of doing this with movies, but it was also quite common just a few centuries ago with other media. Novel translations in the late-medieval era and onward were often paraphrased or rewritten versions of the original works for example.
@WingEmperorBD@PermaineGratt@RachelLeishman I wouldn't call it vandalisation per se, I think there is merit in viewing something through a different culture's lens. The Magnificient Seven was great despite being a remake of Seven Samurai and the same goes for Gankutsuou, an anime retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo.
@WingEmperorBD@PermaineGratt@RachelLeishman I think he has advisors for accuracy but in the end it comes down to "rule of cool" and whatever fits his visions for the movie. The same thing happened with Oppenheimer where Leo Szilárd was played by a Hungarian actor but Edward Teller wasn't and it didn't cause any issues.
@WingEmperorBD@PermaineGratt@RachelLeishman Ancient Greeks had extensive ties with North Africa even before the famous Ptolemy Dynasty and Egypt used to rule a huge chunk of Nubia for a long time. Ethiopia also got its name after the Greek word 'Aithiops' and Aethiopia itself was present during the Trojan War.
@WingEmperorBD@PermaineGratt@RachelLeishman While I appreciate the consistently purist views, I think it should be argued that seeing black actors in a movie about Ancient Greece holds more ground than British or Anglo-Saxon actors.
@PermaineGratt@WingEmperorBD@RachelLeishman Yeah, armor/weapon buffs who wants to see good armor representation in movies and not cultural erasure folks who are screaming about replacement and other silly things
@WingEmperorBD@RachelLeishman If people were really upset about the cultural erasure then they would complain about the horrendous armors but alas none of these people really care about Greek culture

Her Grim counterpart also became quite famous to the point of receiving figs as well
I took my 2 favorite mahjong training tools (efficiency and chinitsu) and made an offline first progressive web app (PWA), so I can train even when there is no reception (ie subway).

@FatihLock@Kageakist0pguy@batmanisbett3r@djscrewforcghst Sure, there are comics which look manga-ish and styles/techniques get exchanged all the time between USA, Europe and Japan as the "big" comic cultures. This leads to hommage or new standards which then define eras. A lovely topic but in-depth discussion is not fit for this site.
@FatihLock@Kageakist0pguy@batmanisbett3r@djscrewforcghst What matters is not the place of creation but the place of publishing in my opinion. If the original end product is published in Japan then it should be considered manga. Many mangaka draw abroad or while travelling but we still call it manga because it's published in Japan.
@Kageakist0pguy@batmanisbett3r@djscrewforcghst People believe misconceptions all the time, it happens a lot when we have limited knowledge about a certain topics. As long as he learns from his mistake and realizes he had the wrong idea it's fine
