There are heroes. There are superheroes. And then, there's @DesmondRImaki from our team in Shillong.

He started his journey with us as an RJ, and he was a damn good one. Later, he stepped into the role of Assistant Programming Head as if putting on another outfit—its powers coming so naturally to him. In Shillong, he’s truly shaped the station's success and the cultural landscape of the region. His 'cool' streak has really rubbed off well on Red FM Shillong's airwaves. And for those who don’t know, he’s a man of many talents. Known as the "Angel Voice of Shillong," his voice has reached every nook and cranny of Shillong since 2008—and still does.

As a creative, he has donned many hats, with content creation and podcasting being the latest tricks up his sleeve—earning him multiple awards. He’s done remarkable work on shows like Lyngwiar Dpei and Ha Khriang Ki Sur Myllung: A Mini Mountain Concert. Through his thought leadership and unwavering efforts, he has scaled heights, even curating Shillong's first-ever roadshows that revolutionized client engagement.

Desmond's impact on the music industry, especially in grassroots and metal music, is unparalleled. He has helped launch the careers of many high-profile artists, staying true to Red FM’s spirit of promoting local talent. A true icon in Shillong's cultural scene, he sometimes steps up as a sound engineer just to get the job done!

Sam, a young trekker and mountaineer from Meghalaya connected via SM in 2020. He shares his birthday with my raja beta's Balidan Diwas and wanted to pay tributes in his unique way by taking Akshay's pic along on his Sikkim expedition. Since then, we've shared bits of our thoughts for our heroes and how each of us tries in our own tiny ways to make a positive difference...

Yesterday, he visited our home saying 'it was my dream to come and meet you'.... brought beautiful gifts from his mother..... a handmade wooden ginger/ masala crusher and the purest haldi & tea leaves 😍

While we chatted and had lunch together like aunt and nephew, learnt so much about his work... despite humble background and limited opportunities, he organises safe treks... trains trekking guides... helps families in need..... tries to positively influence youth in the region.... and is a proud patriot 🇮🇳

Feeling very happy to know Sam, when I impulsively honoured him with a shawl and blessed him, the cheerful young man broke into tears saying 'thank you for the blessings'

Since he left, been feeling emotional and happy... and his message with yesterdays photo just came....

Gratitude for such wonderful young people.... we need more such youth & our country will be in safe hands ❤️🙏
