Johnny Depp earned more than $650 million, by his own managers’ count. In 2015 they told him he had to raise $25 million fast. He fired them and sued. Their answer: he spent $2 million a month.

His lawsuit said the managers paid his taxes late for years. Penalties and interest cost him nearly $5.7 million.

It said they lent more than $10 million of his money to people around him without telling him. Most of it never came back.

It said they took 5% of everything he earned. About $28 million.

The managers were Joel and Robert Mandel. They ran his money for more than 16 years.

Then they filed their own list.

14 homes. $75 million.
A 150-foot yacht. $18 million.
A staff of 40. $300,000 a month.
Private planes. $200,000 a month.
Wine. $30,000 a month.
$3 million to fire the ashes of his friend Hunter S. Thompson out of a cannon.

“Depp, and Depp alone, is fully responsible,” they wrote.

Depp’s answer was not a denial. It was a correction.

“It’s insulting to say I spent $30,000 on wine,” he told Rolling Stone. “Because it was far more.”

And the cannon? “It was $5 million.”

In 2018 they settled. The terms were never made public.

In the video below, Depp is asked about Mandel under oath. He calls him “a very bitter man who ended up with a lot of money that I worked hard for over the years.”

Who was really to blame: the managers who ran the money, or the man who spent $2 million a month?
