The crest-banner of the Solar race, with pure gold brought from all quarters conquered by the valour of his own arms, gold plated the temple of Indumouli, the moon-crested Lord Shiva, at Vyaghrahara.

I came to know about this fascinating temple called Nethrapatheeswarar Temple in Sembiyankalari village, tucked between Orathur and Megalathur in Thanjavur district. It’s known as the “Eye Healing Temple”, people say Lord Shiva here cures vision problems.
The Moondram Pirai Ritual
Every month on the moondram pirai, the third day after Amavasya, special poojas are held at twilight. This is the time devotees with vision issues come to seek Shiva’s grace.
The main ritual is the abhishekam with Dasavani Thailam, a medicinal oil made from 10 ingredients:
Neeli Bringadi
Ponnanganni
Karisalankanni
Henna
Hibiscus
Coconut oil
Sesame oil
Illuppai oil
Castor oil
Neem oil
Moondram Pirai Darshan
In the evening, devotees gather behind the sanctum and look up for the thin crescent moon. It usually appears between 6:30 PM and 7:10 PM on the third day after new moon. Only after seeing the moon, Deeparadhana is offered for Nethrapatheeswarar. If clouds hide the moon, the pooja still goes on based on the prescribed time.
Figs are offered as naivedyam. After the pooja, the Dasavani thailam used for abhishekam is given as prasadam. Devotees apply it on their crown and eyelids, believing it cools the eyes, sharpens vision, and eases eye ailments.
Because of this, many people struggling with eye problems attend the moondram pirai pooja regularly and use the oil as a sacred remedy.
Sembiyankalari sits just south of the ancient Kallanai Dam. It was once historically significant, with parts of Chola administration run from here. The temple, along with Kamakshi Amman’s shrine, was built by Sembiyan Mahadevi, mother of Rajaraja Chola I.
Lord Nethrapatheeswarar is in lingam form facing east. Kamakshi Amman has a separate shrine facing south.
At the entrance is Nandi and Vinayaka stands to the right of the sanctum, and Shiva Subramanya to the left. In the outer corridor you’ll find Narthana Vinayakar, Dakshinamurthy, Annamalaiyar, Brahma, and Rudra Durga. Chandikeswarar has his own shrine. The temple’s sthala vriksham is the Vilva tree, with Naga idols placed beneath it.
Coovum/Koovam Shri Tiripuranthakeswarar temple in Thiruvallur dt. This is where Coovum river originates, flows thro' Chennai and drains in Bay of Bengal. Dating back to 6-7th Cen CE, this ancient temple is also known as Thiruvirkolam, 14th Thevara Padal Petra Sthalam in Thondainadu.
N. Swaminathan, eminent artist and head of the Thevara Padasalai of Dharumapuram Aadheenam, will be honoured with the Padma Shri for his exceptional contribution to Tamil Pann Isai, traditional Thirumurai hymns, and the preservation of ancient musical discourses.

How many of you who have visited Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam have seen this very strange pillar?
Used footwear and garlands on a pillar - very strange combination?
There is a traditional belief that after the final Ardha Jaama Pooja God moves around the temple at night. During that time, he wears footwear!
A particular hereditary family has long been associated with preparing the padukas (sacred footwear) for God Ranganatha.
The ones you see on this pillar are the used ones! You can see the bottom of these physically worn-out!
Periodically these are changed for the God and the used ones are tied on this pillar!
FAITH!

If you are a student of Sanskrit, or a student of Carnatic classical music, then chanting Shri Shiva Mahimna Stotram is extremely beneficial for you.
Shri Shiva Mahimna Stotram has the power to purify our वाणी or speech. By chanting this extraordinary Stotram, we gain mastery over our वाणी, our pronounciations become flawless, our voice becomes authoritative and clear, and we can chant or sing flawlessly.
Shri Shiv Mahimna Stotram is slightly difficult to chant, owing to a lot of सन्धि s in it, but once you gain mastery over this Stotram, you gain mastery over your speech. This Stotram purifies all 4 of our वाणी' s which are परा, पश्यंती, मध्यमा & वैखरी.
Even Vedapathis chant this Stotram for making their pronounciations clear and flawless. This Stotram also bestows immeasurable protection or Rakshanam and blessings on us.
Har Har Mahadev 🙏🪷

At 88, when most people slow down, Inderjit Singh Sidhu steps out with a broom.
Every morning at 6 am, the former IPS officer—once a Deputy Inspector General—walks the streets of Chandigarh, picking up litter with his own hands. Not because it’s his job.
Not because anyone asked him to. But because he couldn’t stand watching his city lose its dignity.
After retirement, Sidhu complained to the authorities. When nothing changed, he chose action.Armed with a bag, he began cleaning alone.
People laughed. Some called him “crazy.” He kept going.
Slowly, something shifted. Neighbours joined in. Family members stepped out.
A solo act of conscience became a community movement.
Chandigarh’s “City Beautiful” found one of its quietest, strongest guardians.“There is no shame in cleaning.
Cleanliness is next to godliness,” Sidhu says simply.
This Republic Day, India honoured him with the Padma Shri in the Unsung Heroes category.
A reminder that ranks retire, uniforms come off, but purpose doesn’t.

End of Mandalam Makaravilakku season
On the morning of the closing, the sanctum sanctorum is opened exclusively for the Pandalam Kingdom representative. Melsanthi performs the pooja and places a Yogadanda (yoga staff) in the deity's hand, signifying the Lord's return to Yoga nidra state.
After Harivarasanam is chanted and the lamps are extinguished, the Melsanthi locks the doors and hands the keys to the Pandalam Raja representative.
The representative then descends the Pathinettampadi (the 18 sacred steps). Tradition dictates that the Raja/Representative is the last person to step down these stairs before the season officially concludes.
The photo below shows the Pandalam Raja representative stepping down the holy 18 steps

66. GOVARDHAN PARIKRAMA, Pradakshan of the hill, Govardhan (Started on 20.05.2025 at approx 10:30 PM and finished on 21.05.2015 at 3:23 AM)
1. My long-standing wish got fulfilled today. Srimad Baghavatham and Varaha Puranam talks about Govardhan giri and the importance of Parikrama
2. Premanand Ji Maharaj describes this Govardhan Parikrama beautifully (He is already a stalwart but is getting even more attention after Virat Kohli and Anushka Sarma became his disciples)
3. He says 5 Naths protect India. Dwarakanath in the west, Badrinath in North, Puri Jagannath in East and Rameshwaranath in South
4. The fifth Nath in the middle is Govardhan Nath and is the soul. He quotes several scriptures and puranas to stare that - one Parikrama of Govardhan is equal to one circling all the other 4 naths
5. One gets to see lovely people. There are several couples who do a combined Namaskara Parikrama 👇
🕉️ Parvathamalai, the sacred hill of Shiva near Tiruvannamalai, rises 4,000 ft with 1,500+ steep steps.
Devotees trek barefoot to the peak, where the Mahadeva is worshipped as Mallikarjuna.
A test of faith, a journey of surrender, a temple in the sky!
Shivprabhat 🙏🏽
