The dissemination of false information regarding the alleged rape of around 25 Meitei girls in Churachandpur has had severe consequences, leading to incidents of rape among tribal women. However, this news has been thoroughly debunked by both the Police and Hornbill Cable TV, as reported by Mang Taithul.

Unfortunately, after the recent viral video of two women being paraded naked, more fake news has surfaced on the internet. It appears that this disinformation is being propagated to divert attention from the impact of the viral video.

I urge all Indian citizens not to be influenced by such misleading news and propaganda concerning the alleged rape of Meitei girls by the Kukis.

It is disheartening to note that this propaganda started with claims of 200 Meitei girls being raped, which later changed to 50 and eventually to 25. The constantly changing numbers indicate the baselessness of these allegations. This false narrative has caused immense suffering for Kuki women, and some have even fallen victim to actual acts of rape.

As a community, let us learn from the harm caused by spreading unverified news and propaganda. I implore our Meitei brethren to learn the lessons inflicted by fake news and propaganda and refrain from circulating unverified information to prevent further damage.
