Cricket is becoming more reliant on reading conditions. I’m amazed how most coaches made bad decisions at the toss.

Only the ENG-NZ game (which Santner fumbled due to captaincy) and IND-ENG semi (that Bumrah won because of his class), defied this.

Sachin’s game knowledge is elite. It was definitely a bat first wicket. The slower ones into the pitch became more effective as the game wore on (also evidenced by the Ind SA game).

The difference between India’s bowlers and New Zealand’s bowlers today is that India are using the slower, short-pitched balls much more effectively, and varying the lengths better. That becomes important on a ground like this and can play a big role, where the square boundaries are longer than the straight ones.

India’s batting and spin bowling has always been great. It is Bumrah who has made the difference and taken them over the finish line. For me, he is above Kohli and Tendulkar now.
