Don't get me wrong, I agree with what the article is trying to bring attention to. But it does so at the cost of disabled & immunocompromised folks, without understanding the ableism that is deeply rooted in our response to the pandemic.
Interesting article on older adults that are left behind to suffer from the consequences of COVID-19, without mentioning disability justice, or 'disability' even once.

I still don’t think people understand what it means for 33 million people to be displaced. That’s 6 times more people than those internally displaced in Ukraine from war, that’s roughly 90% of the population of Canada.
That’s how many people are internally homeless right now
When writing about flooding in Pakistan can I please ask that you think carefully about the discourse you are reinforcing and the agendas you may inadvertently end up supporting in your choice and use of language. Here are my two cents on what we should avoid. 🧵
The scale of displacement caused by the floods so far is unimaginable—between 33 & 35 million so far. To put it in perspective, the Partition of the Subcontinent displaced between 10 & 20 million.
Prayers with the affected & with those involved in rescue & rehabilitation.
Disasters & poverty are a valuable resource 4 d military & civilian ruling elites of Pak. They use disasters & poverty 4 seeking foreign loans, & then use d forex mostly for import of arms & oil, and repayment of loans taken for having forex.

The death toll in Pakistan continues to mount, passing 1,000 as of this morning. 33 million people have been displaced. More than 500,000 homes destroyed. Climate chaos isn't some future possibility, it is happening right now. https://t.co/aNQ5GxApJJ
