The Heartbreaking Cries of Caught in Nigeria’s Endless Violence
I just listened to the speech by the Moroccan lady who was reportedly abused by her Nigerian husband. One part of her speech caught my attention. She mentioned that, unlike in Nigeria, polygamy is regulated in Morocco.
To be honest, it is not only in Morocco. Several Muslim-majority countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, and Jordan, have rules and regulations governing polygamy.
There are certain conditions a man must satisfy before he is permitted to marry more than one wife. Polygamy is not for everyone.
Some of these conditions include financial proof that a man can support multiple wives and children, permission from existing wives confirming that neither they nor their children are harmed, and approval from a family judge after a thorough review.
These laws are designed to protect women and children because when polygamy is left completely unchecked, some selfish men can abuse the system and leave women and children to bear the consequences.
Don’t you think we need similar regulations in Nigeria?

Today, I joined global leaders and stakeholders at the Africa Food Systems Forum 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda, to shape the future of Africa’s food systems.
For Nigeria, this aligns strongly with the Renewed Hope Agenda and our commitment to strengthening food security through innovation, responsible biotechnology and effective regulation.
At NBMA, we remain committed to ensuring that modern biotechnology is safely and responsibly harnessed to support agricultural transformation, food security and sustainable development.
I have this weird feeling about WhatsApp groups today. It began with an announcement of a former classmate's death. Since then, we have been praying to Allah to have mercy on his soul. But that is not the whole story.
Someday, such a WhatsApp group with many members will have no one left in it. There might already be such groups in which all members have passed away. If not yet, there will be.
The ephemeral nature of this life is often overlooked. But it is more certain to people like me, whose parents, siblings, and other loved ones have died. You are more sure that your turn is only a matter of time.
We should reflect on death from time to time. I like a saying: we start dying the day we are born. This should keep us "in check". We must do good on earth to leave a good legacy and memories, and to live a better life in the hereafter.
May Allah (SWT) have mercy on our departed loved ones and us, amin.
