Dr Yasmin Rashid was with us at the Kot Lakhpat jail trial till 6pm today despite her old age, deteriorating health and the hot weather as yet another jail trial is reaching conclusion.
Her 84 year old husband, Rashed Nabi Malik Sb, was also present as he always is to support his wife.
Courts need to consider her suspension and appeal applications soon and authorities need to consider shifting her to a good hospital.
It’s been more than three years that she has been incarcerated despite her age, health and other factors all being in favour of her being granted bail earlier (and now suspension of sentence on the same grounds).
Banks in 🇵🇰 must transfer 10–20% of profit to Statutory Reserves (Section 21 BCO 1962) before dividends.
If (Reserve + Share Premium < Paid-up Capital) → ≥ 20% × Profit
Else → ≥ 10% × Profit
Profit × (0.10–0.20) is locked into equity.

What are Salaried Class's minimum demands for the current budget:
-Increase the income tax exemption threshold from the existing PKR 600,000 to at least PKR 1.2 million–1.5 million.
-Apply the top tax slab of 35% only on income exceeding PKR 10 million, or at minimum somewhere between PKR 7 million and PKR 10 million.
-Adjust all lower tax slabs accordingly after revising the top 35% slab threshold.
-Restore the tax credit for investment in mutual funds and IPOs, with a minimum retention period of 2 years, using the same model as pension funds for taxing early withdrawals.
Other minor incentives or “lollypops” are not acceptable and do not provide any real or meaningful relief for salaried class taxpayers.
The most affected group due to the continuous increase in petroleum prices is the salaried class. Indirect taxes apply to everyone, but direct taxes are mainly paid by salaried individuals, and they are already struggling to manage their finances.
Now consider this: when petrol was around Rs. 260 (before the recent global tensions), it has now reached around Rs. 415. An average salaried person living in a big city, using a vehicle for daily commuting and consuming around 4 litres of fuel per day, is now facing an increase of more than Rs. 15,000 per month in fuel expenses (forget the impact of increase in fuel prices on other items).
It is becoming very difficult to survive under such conditions. We can only pray for ease from Allah, as there is very little expectation from the government.
Tax Savings for Homeowners against interest on house loan! Understanding the Section 63A Tax Credit 📉
The Finance Act 2025 restored a tax benefit for individuals who take out home loans
. Starting from Tax Year 2026, you can get a direct "rupee-for-rupee" reduction in your tax payable based on the interest (markup) you pay on your house loan.
🛑 Who Qualifies?
The Individual: Any individual taxpayer (salaried or business) is eligible.
The Lender: Your loan must be from a scheduled bank, SECP-regulated NBFC, government body, or a PSX-listed public company.
The Goal: The loan must be used to construct or acquire your personal residential property (renovations are not included).
📏 Strict Property Size Limits
To claim this credit, your property must meet these size caps:
House: Land area up to 2,500 sq. ft.
Flat/Apartment: Total area up to 2,000 sq. ft.
🔢 How is the Credit Calculated?
The credit is computed using your Average Tax Rate multiplied by your markup paid. However, there is a crucial 30% income cap.
The Formula: (Total Tax Assessed / Taxable Income) × C Where "C" is the LESSER of:
The actual markup/profit you paid during the year.
30% of your total taxable income for the year.

💡 Worked Example (Tax Year 2026)
Based on the "Tax Sahulat" illustrative profile:
Annual Salary: Rs. 8,400,000
Tax Before Credit (A): Rs. 2,121,000
Taxable Income (B): Rs. 8,400,000
Average Tax Rate (A ÷ B): 25.25%
Actual Markup Paid on 10M loan @ 13%: Rs. 1,300,000
30% Income Limit: Rs. 2,520,000 (30% of 8.4M)
Applicable Markup (C): Rs. 1,300,000 (since it is less than the 30% limit)
.
💰 YOUR TAX CREDIT: 25.25% × Rs. 1,300,000 = Rs. 328,250 ✅ NET TAX PAYABLE: Rs. 2,121,000 - Rs. 328,250 = Rs. 1,792,750
That’s a monthly saving of approximately Rs. 27,354!

My heart goes out to all affected by the floods in KP. Connectivity is a lifeline in times of crisis - that’s why we’ve made all on-net & PTCL calls free in flood-hit areas, so families & responders can stay connected when they need it most.
Recently, I spoke to a petrol pump worker in Pakistan who told me that in six months on the job he had not received a single tip.
I understand tipping isn’t really a norm at petrol pumps, but considering the tough conditions they work in (low wages, extreme heat and cold) I feel they deserve a little extra.
If you drive a luxury car and sit comfortably in the air-conditioning while someone makes the effort to fill your tank, a small tip would go a long way. Just like we do at restaurants.
