NEW - Dems' "Project 2029" first major policy proposal: an online child safety plan — narrowing Sec. 230, banning social media for kids under 16, promoting phone-free childhoods and more
Already backed by Cory Booker, Mikie Sherrill, Randi Weingarten + Jonathan Haidt
Linus of Tech Tips says he now loves the Steam Machine: "This is what I've been waiting for the whole time!"
he says it's the best competitor to the Mac Mini.

That being said no blame to the guy(kid?) because quality games are hard to find. Navigating a minefield of battle passes and gacha mechanics to find something that speaks to you like source engine did to millennials sounds like a battle, settling with marathon is cool with me
I’m pretty sure the guy replying here is very young and new to gaming. Marathon is pretty good but to say it’s the first MP game to count as art is insane, it’s an extraction shooter with an art style. The power fantasy is so gamer ™ that only hardcore gamers ™ even play it!
First it’s frontier AIs that are too dangerous too release, then it’s OSS models that are too dangerous to release.
Dario and Sam are scared shitless that OSS LLMs are going to obliterate openAI and antrhopic off the face of the planet
🚨ANTHROPIC CEO: OPEN SOURCE AI IS GETTING DANGEROUS
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei told lawmakers that open-source AI is moving down a “very dangerous path.”
His warns that once powerful models are released openly, companies lose the ability to monitor misuse, revoke access, or update safety guardrails.
@KrsJin It all comes down to what you value more I suppose. I’d say anyone with a beast gaming pc who wants to also game in living room would be silly to buy a ps5, because now you are on the hook for a yearly fee and have to rebuy the same game twice with no cross save
A ps5 is not cheaper all together, it’s only cheaper in the short term.
Ps+ is $100+ a year.
Ps5 controllers are $80 each.
Ps5 games are expensive and in my opinion not very great
you could build a faster computer for lil less, but will it be a 6” cube? No noise? HDMI CEC?
I feel like I'm being gaslit.
For months I heard how the Steam Machine was going to change gaming, replace consoles, push SteamOS mainstream, and finally give us a true living-room PC.
Then the reviews dropped.
It's over $1,300, struggles in games people actually want to play, gets compared to hardware that's years old, and somehow the defense is always:
"You're not the target audience."
Who is?
Because PC gamers can build better.
Console gamers can buy a PS5 Pro for less.
Steam Deck owners already have the Valve experience.
The performance is underwhelming, the price makes no sense, and somehow the conversation is still dominated by excuses instead of answers.
I wanted a killer product.
What I got was a collector's item pretending to be a gaming revolution.
@KrsJin true but that’s still cutting the cost down on something that you’re forced to buy, as opposed to just using one from a box of perfectly fine controllers
My point is it all adds up being stuck in the Sony ecosystem
I understand people’s hesitation at $1,050, but for me personally this is exactly what I want to put in my living room. 0 configuration, devs will target its limitations, and I can play my huge steam library backlog.
Cannot wait and will be getting one as soon as I possibly can
I should add that generative art is cancer and is killing the soul of the world. There is not a right or wrong way to write music, draw, voice act, or write lore. No excuses for expedition33, arc raiders, etc.
Let AI make tools to make art, don’t let AI make your art.
I see a lot of game devs being extremely against AI assisted coding and I can’t help but comment.
Code is not art. You can have beautifully laid out code, but it is functional and there is a right and wrong way to write code
@PikminGuts92 I only have an issue with the stolen training data because one or two companies are profiting off it. When frontier models are open source I’d imagine we’d all be a lot less worried, it’d be more like Wikipedia where everyone contributes for the betterment of the model
